Description The Division of Microbiology and Immunology at the Emory National Primate Research Center in Atlanta, GA, is seeking a Post Doctoral Fellow to join the laboratory of Dr. Vijayakumar Velu. Our work focuses on HIV vaccination therapy, pathogenesis, mucosal immunology, and immune responses in human papillomavirus‑related cervical and anal cancer in people living with HIV. The research emphasizes the immunologic underpinnings of HPV infection, the microbiome, periodontal disease, high‑grade squamous intraepithelial lesions, and social determinants linked to lesions most likely to progress to cancer. The ideal candidate is motivated, dependable, detail oriented, has a positive attitude, and a passion for research. The Post‑Doctoral Fellow will be a team player who is willing to learn on the job and collaborate with lab members and center members. They will work to ensure the highest quality of laboratory research support and communicate effectively with colleagues, the PI, research staff, students, and other support services. Collaborate. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Help design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for a career. Determine the specific area of mentored research based on the department and laboratory. Design and evaluate experiments. Develop new ideas that promote current research. Prepare and publish scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operating specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, with renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS, etc.) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. Ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator. PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Ph.D. in Life Sciences. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work involves biohazardous blood and tissues. Some exposure to hazards or physical risks requires following basic safety precautions. Typical laboratory environment. Requires the ability to bend, kneel, and / or squat. Work schedule to be discussed during interview. PRE‑EMPLOYMENT STATEMENT The Emory National Primate Research Center (EPC), in conjunction with Emory University, conducts pre‑employment screenings for all positions. Screenings may include an Information Network Associates (INA) and criminal background check, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications. The process may also include a drug screening with health assessment and review and mandate for various vaccinations. Updated COVID‑19 vaccinations may be necessary for specific research projects.
