Privacy Counsel

Gilead Sciences seeks a Privacy Counsel to provide U.S. and global privacy compliance guidance within the Office of Ethics and Compliance. The role advises business and legal stakeholders on privacy risk management, regulatory obligations, and data governance across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Serve as first-line contact for privacy inquiries, monitoring intake channels and triaging requests appropriately
• Provide guidance to business stakeholders on data collection, disclosures, marketing practices, vendor interactions, and individual rights
• Support privacy risk assessments by identifying risk triggers and evaluating proposed processing activities
• Partner with cross-functional teams including IT, Security, Contracts, and Compliance to ensure consistent processes
• Develop privacy training materials and standard guidance templates to improve organizational consistency

Requirements

• JD with minimum 4 years U.S. privacy experience; CIPP certification preferred
• 4+ years advising multinational organizations on privacy compliance in technology, healthcare, financial, or digital sectors
• Strong understanding of U.S. and global privacy regulations; IAPP certification preferred
• Proficiency with privacy management platforms such as OneTrust, BigID, TrustArc, or ServiceNow
• Experience advising on HIPAA and health data privacy compliance
• Strong legal drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills with ability to translate requirements into practical guidance
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills in global, matrixed environments

Compensation: $210,375–$272,250 base
