Tooling and Automation Engineer

Salary: $82,000 - 122,000 per year Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from a four-year university; a robotics or controls degree or minor is a plus.
• Proficiency with solid modeling tools such as Creo or SolidWorks.
• Experience with automation, PLCs, machine vision, and electrical controls.
• Project management experience.
• Familiarity with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Basic knowledge of progressive stamping, lead-frame slugout, injection and insert molding, lead-frame over-molding, small-component handling and assembly, terminal plating, or new product development is a plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical drawings and procedures, and to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions and present information effectively in response to questions.
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and provide project updates so issues can be reviewed and resolved.

• Develop and document assembly tooling for new and existing products, including concepts, estimates, scopes of work, quotations, design, build, and validation.
• Create and document assembly processes, spare-parts lists, and preventive maintenance plans.
• Define process steps and operating sequences, material handling, process controls, and preliminary layouts.
• Prepare equipment and systems specifications and scopes of work.
• Collaborate with product development to identify and develop enabling technologies.
• Work with project teams to define the supply chain from raw materials through customer application.
• Partner with industrial engineers to establish cycle times, efficiencies, yields, process-step relationships, and, as needed, dynamic models for process and line-balance assumptions covering arrangement, rates, balance, yield, utilities, and capacity.
• Contribute to product and process design-for-manufacturing reviews, FMEAs, and risk assessments.
• Define critical product and process parameters for product documentation, including nominal values, tolerances, and their relationship to process functions.
• Evaluate process safety and occupational health considerations.
• Develop cost and operational criteria using internal and external resources to support major tooling justification and acquisition.
• Propose and implement cost-reduction initiatives for established assembly processes.
