We're Looking for an Exceptional Lead Carpenter

Daniel Builders is looking for an experienced  Lead Carpenter who takes tremendous pride in his craft, knows how to lead a crew, and wants to be part of a team committed to doing residential construction at an exceptional level.

We're not looking for someone who simply knows how to build.

We're looking for someone who can  own the jobsite .

Someone who can look at a set of plans, understand where the work is headed, organize the people and materials needed to get there, and bring excellent work to life in the field. Someone who communicates before there's a problem, holds himself and the people around him to a high standard, and takes responsibility for the outcome.

If you're an excellent craftsman but don't want the responsibility that comes with leading others, this probably isn't the role for you.

But if you love building, enjoy developing other craftsmen, and take pride in leaving a jobsite better than you found it, we'd like to meet you.

What You'll Do

As a Lead Carpenter, you'll work closely with a Daniel Builders Project Manager to turn plans into reality while leading the day-to-day work of our field team.

You'll be expected to:

• Lead the crew with purpose. Set clear expectations for the day, keep the team aligned, and establish the tone for professionalism, urgency, respect, craftsmanship, and safety.
• Own craftsmanship and execution. Understand the drawings and specifications, think ahead, prepare the work, and make sure what your team installs meets or exceeds our standards.
• Build it right the first time. We believe in a punch-free mindset. Quality isn't something we inspect into a project at the end—it should be built into the work every day.
• Plan ahead. Anticipate tools, materials, layout, sequencing, and questions before they slow down the crew.
• Communicate proactively. Stay closely connected with the Project Manager, ask questions when something isn't clear, and raise issues while they're still small.
• Develop the people around you. Teach, coach, give feedback, and help less-experienced carpenters become better at their craft.
• Take ownership. When something belongs to you or your crew, you own the result—not just your individual piece of the work.

That's the standard laid out in our Lead Carpenter KRA: the Lead Carpenter is responsible not only for his own work, but for creating a crew that understands what matters, stays aligned with the project, and consistently executes excellent work.

Experience matters.  Character and how you work matter just as much.

Take pride in their craft.
You notice details. You care how things look when they're finished. "Good enough" bothers you when you know it could have been done correctly.

Move with purpose.
You understand urgency without becoming frantic. You think ahead, stay productive, and help your crew do the same.

Own the outcome.
You don't spend much time figuring out whose fault something is. You figure out what needs to happen next and take responsibility for moving it forward.

Communicate early.
You don't hide mistakes, sit on problems, or wait until the end of the day to mention something that could have been addressed that morning.

Make the people around you better.
You don't hoard knowledge. You enjoy teaching the craft and helping younger carpenters grow.

Bring solutions.
Construction rarely goes exactly according to plan. When something unexpected happens, you're capable of thinking critically, communicating clearly, and helping determine the best path forward.

Treat people well.
Clients, coworkers, designers, trade partners, and apprentices all deserve respect.

The Skill Level We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with significant residential carpentry and remodeling experience who can demonstrate the ability to lead work—not simply perform it.

The right candidate should be comfortable with:

• Reading and interpreting residential plans and specifications
• High-quality residential carpentry
• Leading and directing a small field crew
• Planning and sequencing work
• Identifying problems before they affect production
• Maintaining an organized, professional, and safe jobsite
• Communicating with Project Managers and trade partners
• Teaching and developing less-experienced carpenters
• Working in occupied homes and representing Daniel Builders professionally with clients
• Taking responsibility for quality, productivity, and the final result

We care much more about demonstrated capability than a particular number of years on a résumé.

This Probably Isn't the Right Fit If...

You may be a talented carpenter and still not be the Lead Carpenter we're looking for.

This probably isn't the right role if you:

• Need someone else to tell you what to do next
• Consistently react to the day instead of preparing for it
• Avoid difficult conversations or wait too long to communicate problems
• Blame plans, trade partners, coworkers, or circumstances when things go wrong
• Believe speed matters more than craftsmanship
• Believe craftsmanship excuses poor productivity
• Don't enjoy teaching or working with less-experienced carpenters
• Have trouble receiving feedback
• Are looking for a place where you can simply show up, do your own work, and go home

We have a high standard for this role because Lead Carpenters have an enormous influence on our projects, our clients, and our people.
