Overview BSD SUR - Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery: Administration. At UChicago Medicine, the Section of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery cares for patients across the spectrum of plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery, including breast reconstruction, craniofacial and microsurgery. Investigators conduct research in tissue engineering and craniofacial/bone biology with implications for craniofacial defects due to trauma or tumor surgery. Job Summary The Advanced Practice Provider supports clinical care and patient services, including educational, research, clinical support, and administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery team. Responsibilities Assist in all plastic surgery procedures, including mastectomies, breast reconstruction, tissue expanders, breast augmentations, abdominoplasties, and general plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Provide surgical and clinical support in multiple locations including Hyde Park and River East. Assist in preparing for and expediting the start of surgery in the operating room. Prepare the patient for surgery and provide preoperative and postoperative instructions, and facilitate discharge planning. Maintain established departmental policies, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Round and provide clinical care for in-house patients; prepare clinic charts (e.g., obtaining IOE, outside records, pre-charting). Assist physicians and provide independent clinical care to patients in the clinic. Hold weekly cosmetic injectables clinics. Coordinate patient and family education needs with staff, case managers, and other clinical personnel. Assist in the in- and out-patient setting in assessing patient health status and needs and in performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Support development and implementation of comprehensive plans of care with the in- and out-patient teams. Ensure proper outpatient follow-up communication with appropriate health care providers. Serve as a professional role model and provide expert care in the in- and out-patient setting. Promote patient care protocols addressing the physical and psychological needs of adult and geriatric patients in both in- and out-patient settings. Collaborate with care team and multidisciplinary members to provide direct patient care. Participate in self and peer evaluation to improve quality of care. Participate in the development, review, and evaluation of Surgical 1st Assist procedures. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with health care colleagues. Demonstrate effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication for problem resolution. Keep knowledge current by reading professional literature and attending educational conferences. Evaluate goals and outcomes considering safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Develop diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions to achieve patient care goals. Understand adverse drug reactions with attention to vulnerable populations and coordinate APP training and professional development activities. Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education: College or university degree from an accredited school/college. Work Experience: Knowledge and skills through education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related discipline. Certifications: Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration; eligible to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO) - State of Illinois. Preferred Qualifications Education: Completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program accredited by ARC-PA. Experience: Clinical experience in a related area of specialty. Licenses and Certifications: Current physician assistant license/registration in Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date; NCCPA certification by start date. Preferred Competencies Ability to provide direct patient care professionally and respectfully. Ability to provide direct patient care independently under physician direction. Excellent verbal and written communication. Ability to perform detailed work and manage multiple concurrent tasks with occasional interruptions. Discretion and confidentiality handling sensitive situations. Problem solving using math or reasoning principles. Ability to train or lead others.
