Ambulatory Ophthalmic Eye Surgery Center - Athens, GA Position: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Location: Athens, Georgia Employment Type: Full-Time Department: Perioperative / Clinical Services Schedule: Monday-Friday, daytime hours; no nights, weekends, or holidays About the Position We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our ambulatory ophthalmic surgery center in Athens. The LPN will play an important role in providing safe, efficient, and patient-centered care throughout the surgical experience, from pre-operative preparation through recovery and discharge. This is an excellent opportunity for an LPN who enjoys a collaborative outpatient environment and is interested in ophthalmology and perioperative nursing. Key Responsibilities Prepare patients for ophthalmic surgical procedures, including obtaining vital signs, reviewing medications, and completing pre-operative assessments within scope of practice. Provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care in accordance with established protocols. Assist the surgical and anesthesia teams as directed. Administer medications and treatments as ordered and within LPN scope of practice. Monitor patients for changes in condition and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate provider. Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation. Provide patient and family education regarding procedures, medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up care. Assist with patient admission, transfers, recovery, and discharge. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment. Follow infection-control, medication-safety, surgical-safety, and regulatory standards. Participate in maintaining appropriate supplies, equipment, and emergency preparedness. Work collaboratively with ophthalmologists, registered nurses, anesthesia personnel, surgical technologists, and other members of the care team. Provide exceptional customer service and help create a calm, reassuring experience for patients undergoing eye surgery. Qualifications Current, unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Georgia. Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program. Current BLS certification. Previous ambulatory surgery, ophthalmology, perioperative, pre-op/PACU, or outpatient clinical experience preferred. Strong assessment, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and compassionate care. Reliable attendance and professional demeanor. Preferred Experience Candidates with experience in ophthalmology, ambulatory surgery, pre-operative or post-operative care, medication administration, or outpatient procedural settings are especially encouraged to apply. Experience with cataract and other ophthalmic procedures is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
