Job Title Public Safety Communication Support Specialist - BCSO Pay Rate: $30.12 - $36.15 Time Type: Full time Responsibilities Supervises large equipment moves, disassembling and reassembling electronic components. Assists with maintenance of land mobile radio and dispatch center communications equipment. Maintains updated knowledge of P25 trunked radio system, point-to-point microwave, and analog land mobile radio. Creates technical field and maintenance reports as required. Creates, updates, and reviews system procedures and documentation on an ongoing basis. Completes testing and system performance documentation. Supports and performs on-site commissioning, site acceptance, and system testing. Performs programming and configuration of all system components. Prevents and corrects maintenance, setup, configuration, and performance optimization of land mobile radio equipment. Creates and provides instruction materials for system users. Utilizes specialized test equipment and complex electronic schematics and diagrams to conduct fault isolation; uses data to revise maintenance instructions and recommend changes. Performs indoor and outdoor RF signal measurements. Maintains current records in inventory management and tracking systems. Works with Network Architecture Team on transition of infrastructure solutions for Local Area Network. Assists manager in scheduling technical support workload and major projects. Trains and advises technical support staff on network software applications. Leads projects assigned to section and compiles status reports to management. Assists users in determining complex software requirements and needs. Responds to after-hour calls related to network problems. Analyzes and resolves network crisis situations. Performs routine maintenance of network hardware and software. Performs related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Data Processing, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field, and four (4) years of computer network experience; OR successful completion of a relevant program from an accredited technical school and four (4) years of computer network experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Good knowledge of LAN software packages and operating systems; knowledge of programming languages and/or broad network integration techniques. Skill in installing LAN hardware and software; performing diagnostic system tests; logical problem solving; troubleshooting LAN hardware and software related problems. Ability to recognize problems and recommend solutions; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees, Department Heads, Elected/Appointed Officials, and co-workers. Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance. Must clear a pre-employment physical and pre-employment drug screen test. Must have available transportation during entire workday; required to travel to remote sites within Bexar County. Must have a valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance. Required to be on-call 24 hours a day. May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek. Working Environment and Physical Demands Generally working in indoor conditions. Occasionally moves items weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally moves about the office. Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information. Generally operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
