Speech And Language Specialist

This position is full time on site in person work only.

Under the supervision of an administrator, the speech and language specialist will develop and conduct programs for the remediation of handicapping conditions in speech and language development at each school site. Duties may include, but not limited to the following:

• Provide direct instruction to appropriately identified special students who have speech and language handicaps.
• Select and administer tests to identify speech and language handicapping conditions.
• Interpret test results, orally and in writing to parents, teachers and other school personnel, as appropriate.
• Prepare appropriate instructional materials.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of instruction through use of the Individual Education Program(s).
• Prepare attendance reports and maintain other records as required by the Soledad Union School District Board Policies and Administrative Regulations.
• Confer with teachers and administrators regard the progress and needs of the special students enrolled in the speech and language program.
• Provide assistance and support to regular education programs, including screening, consultation, etc., as directed.
• Participate in each school site's Individual Education Program Team, when appropriate.

Physical requirements include the ability to see for purposes of observing students and reading instructional materials, tests, student records and other printed matter. Ability to understand speech at normal levels in person or on the telephone. Ability to operate audiovisual equipment, computer, typewriter, copy machine and other office and classroom equipment with dexterity. Ability to occasionally lift/carry supplies and printed materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Working conditions include a classroom environment subject to bending, crouching, kneeling, and sitting on the floor to interact with students, pushing/pulling equipment and reaching in all directions.

Professional qualifications include a General Elementary, Standard Elementary, Multiple Subject or appropriate Single Subject credential. When appropriate and requested by state agencies, the LDS/CLAD or BCC/BCLAD certification may be required depending upon assignment or be an educator in training for the CLAD or BCLAD.

Incentive program for certificated special education staff working under a clear or preliminary credential is available for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years. Employees shall be eligible for a retention incentive of ten-thousand dollars ($10,000) prorated by FTE during the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school year and paid two times per school year-December 2025 ($2,500), June 2026 ($2,500), December 2026 ($2,500), and June 2027 ($2,500). The incentive is subject to the following conditions:

• The employee must hold a preliminary or clear credential in one of the areas listed above.
• The employee must be assigned to and actively working in a position aligned with that credential within the District for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years.
• The employee must have completed or be on-track to complete at least 90% of their assigned workdays for the school year at the time the stipends are issued. Completed work is defined as being in paid status and receiving STRS credit. If the employee completes fewer than 90% of their workdays in a school year, the incentive may receive prorated payment(s) at the discretion of the District.
• The payments will be made in December 2025 ($2,500), June 2026 ($2,500), December 2026 ($2,500), and June 2027 ($2,500).

Repayment clause: If an eligible employee voluntarily resigns, moves into a different role that is not outlined in this MOU, or separates from the District prior to completing 90% of their assigned workdays, they shall not be entitled to the incentive, unless otherwise waived by mutual agreement between the District and the Association. This MOU shall expire on June 30, 2027, unless extended by mutual written agreement. Nothing in this Memorandum of Understanding shall be construed as precedent setting or as establishing a past practice. This agreement is made on a non-precedent basis and shall apply only to the specific circumstances described herein.
