Senior Maintenance Mechanic (Multiple Vacancies) Overview The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations across the State of New Jersey, including facilities, public safety, and environmental health and safety. Posting Summary The Senior Maintenance Mechanic will work independently in a designated zone or as the sole mechanic on a campus, reporting directly to a second‑level supervisor. Responsibilities Guide and instruct other staff in a wide range of mechanical maintenance duties to repair and maintain equipment in good operating condition. Perform work based on work orders that provide limited instruction or assistance. Estimate work and procure appropriate materials for self or the group. Guide and instruct craft trainees. Perform any duties required by the group. Verify results of work performed by outside vendors. Qualifications High‑school or vocational education or equivalent, plus at least four years of experience performing mechanical/electrical maintenance and repair on industrial‑type motors and pumps such as water distribution, high‑temperature, and vacuum pumps. Successful completion of an approved training program or certified apprenticeship, plus a minimum of two years of experience and proven competency performing complex mechanical/electrical maintenance on similar motors and pumps. Valid driver’s license with at least two years of driving experience. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, read and comprehend technical manuals and blueprints, and communicate effectively. Competence in performing complex mechanical/electrical maintenance for industrial‑type motors and pumps (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc.). Preferred Qualifications Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required. Physical Demands & Work Environment Shift hours: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Safe driving record required.
