The District Attorney's Office is looking for experienced investigators to become District Attorney Investigators. **Experience conducting fraud investigations is highly desirable** District Attorney Investigators perform a wide variety of investigations of alleged or suspected violations of criminal and civil laws. Incumbents are sworn peace officers with law enforcement duties. District Attorney Investigator II is the first working-level class of the series. Under general supervision, incumbents perform progressively more responsible criminal and civil investigations. Job Offer and Background Process begins shortly after the interviews conclude. Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results. Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date If you are not selected for this interview process, you may have the opportunity to compete for future vacancies. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid and current California Regular Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate* at the time of application; AND One (1) year of experience as a District Attorney Investigator I with the County of San Diego; OR Three (3) years of recent experience as a peace officer working for a Federal, State or local law enforcement agency, one (1) year of which must have been conducting full-time, comprehensive, and complex criminal investigations.
NOTE:
No level of California POST Specialized Certificate can be substituted for the California POST Basic Certificate. Recent work experience is defined as work experience within the past five (5) years. *District Attorney Investigator II can earn a premium, in addition to the annual base salary, for valid advanced California P.O.S.T certifications. PeaceOfficerProvisions Positions in this classification are Peace Officers as defined in Section 830 of the California Penal Code, and must meet employment guidelines and standards established by the Commission for Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST); the provisions of Sections 1029 and 1031 of the California Government Code; and the Standards and Training for Corrections (STC), Selection and Training Standards, as contained in Title 15, Sections 100 – 358, California Code of Regulations. Applicants must be 21 years of age by the time of appointment. Appointees enter the County Retirement System as a Safety Member and are not covered under Social Security. Appointees are "Peace Officers" as defined in Section 830.1of the California Penal Code for the purpose of carrying out the duties of their employment, and as such will be required to qualify and carry an office issued, or office approved, firearm and other office approved safety equipment. Condition of Employment As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process. Background Investigation Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, severity, and recency. Prior to appointment, candidates will be subject to a background investigation. Evaluation Process The names of qualified applicants will be placed on an employment list for six (6) months based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications. If you are successful in the initial screening process, your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.
