Required Qualifications
• Candidates must have an unrestricted, current license as a Physician Assistant from any U.S. state. Licensure must be maintained current, and any education and training must be completed within the required timeline for completion by the licensing/certifying authority. Any license changes must immediately be reported to the employer. A temporary license will not be accepted.
• The candidate must meet the following: A bachelor's degree from a PA training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications
• The PA must be certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) if required by state for licensure.
• Candidates must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, or the American Safety and Health Institute.
• Candidates must have at least one year of clinical experience obtained after initial licensure as a Physician Assistant in any combination of family medicine, emergency medicine, acute care, ambulatory care, and/or public/community health medicine.
• Within the preceding three years, candidates may not have a gap in clinical practice exceeding six months unless the gap is fully explained and approved of by leadership.
• Candidates must have experience providing care to pediatric patients and pregnant patients within the preceding five years and be comfortable treating both populations.
• The PA must not have any healthcare certifications or licenses withheld, suspended, revoked, or denied
• The PA must not have surrendered or allowed a license or certificate to expire or lapse because of an investigation or disciplinary action.
• The PA must not have been convicted of, or pled guilty to, or pled nolo contendre to, or received probation before judgment for any crime other than a minor traffic violation the record of which has not been expunged.
• The PA shall follow state and federal laws and regulations relating to prescription of dangerous drugs and controlled substances.
• Shall comply with all state and federal laws governing patient care privacy regulations.
• Is willing to undergo a federal background check which may include information on or interviews with current and former family members, foreign travel, neighbors and past employers.
• Can work with electronic systems including a computer to access the EMR, medication applications, training, policies, and reporting requirements. Is also knowledgeable about Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Calendar, Microsoft Teams as these are the primary mechanisms to communicate.
• Is willing to use personal cell phone as necessary for time keeping, phone calls and other necessary applications

• Works in an environment where temperature control and noise management is not at the discretion of the staff.
• Works shifts that may include nighttime, night driving and remote locations. (Requires dependable transportation to/from locations)
• Requires frequent use of provided telephonic translation services for communication with patients.
Duties and Responsibilities • Initiates and maintains compliance with policies and works within Scope of Practice and performs functions outlined in the Protocols for Loyal Source and CBP.
• Provides direct healthcare services to persons in CBP custody (migrants) and may respond to emergency health situations involving staff, contractors, and civilians.
• Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Performs medical histories on migrants and completes necessary evaluations with documentation in the Electronic Medical Record.
• Evaluates and provides care to migrants; to include medical follow up, sick call and medication prescriptions.
• Provides prescriptions for medications including translation of foreign initiated medications into US equivalent.
• Provides care for all ages including pregnant patients.
• Scope of care includes
o Basic acute care management (example Upper Respiratory Infection, sprained ankle, headache)
o Provides care work within a Trauma Informed Care model
o Basic prenatal care (example: urine pregnancy test, morning sickness management, fetal movement check, vital sign monitoring)
o Non-complex pediatric management (otitis media, asthma exacerbation, rash evaluation, GI illness)
o Routine adult care of chronic health issues (hypertension evaluation, glucose check, anxiety, cough)
• Provides emergency and First Aid treatment within Scope of Work until care is transferred to a local healthcare system as appropriate.
• Reviews/revaluates daily or as necessary, those cases require ongoing medical/pharmaceutical attention.
• Communicates routinely with Loyal Source contracted physician supervisors and pediatric advisors. Carries out orders authorized by the supervising physician or pediatric advisor.
• Provides relevant patient health education to migrants verbally and/or with handouts.
• Documents health problems on the Problem List in the migrant's EMR and initiates a plan of treatment, referring for further medical treatment as appropriate.
• Coordinates health care needs of migrants with other staff members and coordinates referrals to offsite providers as required.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy of medical records. Works collaboratively with other need to know persons such as CBP agents, ER's and pharmacies.
• Applies knowledge of medications and therapeutics when prescribing and dispensing medication.
• Can appropriately write prescriptions with accurate (liquid) dosing for persons who cannot swallow pills such as children or people with certain health conditions.
• Maintains safety when dispensing medications such as consistent oversight of the medication, administration and documentation of the process.
• Ensures all health and safety precautions are followed in the medical unit or areas where health care is provided including removal of disposing of sharps/needles, ensuring medications are out of reach of unauthorized persons, and keeping any medical instruments in the care of healthcare personnel.
• Adheres to a level of transparency in identifying, reporting, participating and following up on health safety issues including healthcare errors, good catches/near misses and deviations from standard procedures.
• Maintains non-involvement in the security aspects of persons in CBP custody.
• Keeps an ethical professional working relationship with peers, patients and others who work with migrants including contractors, CBP agents and others. Does not provide health care services to persons other than migrants unless in an emergency response. Uses all health resources, including an NP's time to respond to the health needs of migrants or other assigned duties of employment with Loyal Source (training, drills, timekeeping).
• Assists in the disposal of biologically hazardous wastes on a regular basis.
• In certain circumstances, may take blood, urine specimens, sputum samples, etc. for laboratory analysis (examples might include such things as glucose finger sticks, pregnancy tests); however, in most cases, migrants will be referred to local healthcare if laboratory or radiological studies are required.
• Interprets selected laboratory findings or external medical records such as results of Point of Care tests or records from an Emergency Department visit. Is able to effectively communicate the results to the patient and make decisions based on the information.
• Takes direct and indirect action to isolate and quarantine cases and provide health safety and treatment for all employees and persons in CBP custody at the facility when a communicable disease is evident such as tuberculosis or influenza. Ensures appropriate notifications occur when a communicable disease is suspected.
• Assists in maintenance of medical equipment and quality control of laboratory reagents.
• Attends general/medical staff meetings.
• Participates in quality improvement and health safety reporting activities as assigned.
• May assist in maintaining medical supply stock level, restocking as needed.
• May order supplies (lab and otherwise) on the allowable supplies list as necessary.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
• If an Infirmary (Short-Stay Unit) is onsite, may do daily rounds on patients and notify the Physician, of any abnormal findings.
• Participate and conduct staff orientation as directed by program management staff.
