Maintenance Technician Supervisor

Job TitleThis technical and supervisory position is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical systems and equipment throughout Frederick County buildings and facilities. Supervision is given to Maintenance Technicians and private contractors.Job DescriptionTo perform this job successfully, an employee must be able to perform all essential functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform their essential functions.Qualifications and RequirementsThe qualifications/requirements, knowledge/skills/abilities and physical requirements or working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.High school graduation or the equivalencyMinimum 6 years of progressively responsible work experience in the installation and maintenance of a mechanical tradeMinimum 2 years of work experience supervising or directing the work of othersPossession of a Maryland State Masters HVAC or Electrical licensePossession of a valid driver's licenseKnowledge of local, state and federal building codes, including IBC and NFPA guidelinesKnowledge of construction practices and methods used for mechanical installations and replacementsWorking knowledge of materials, methods, tools and techniques used in the repair, maintenance and installation for mechanical systemsKnowledge of hazards associated with maintenance and construction work in the mechanical trade field and the ability to recognize and employ appropriate safety measuresAbility to accurately diagnose mechanical problems and make appropriate repairsAbility to effectively read and interpret plans and specificationsAbility to effectively estimate materials costs and labor hours, and to accurately prepare related forms and reportsAbility to effectively organize and prioritize work, direct the work of others, and work with limited supervisionAbility to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, upper management, appointed and elected officials as well as the general publicStrong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skillsAbility to learn and effectively use specialized construction and procurement software applicationsPreference may be given for: Experience using Microsoft 365, A college degree in a related field of study, State of Maryland Master HVAC/HVACR Trade License, HVAC/HVACR work experience, Building Automation Control work experiencePhysical Requirements / Working ConditionsWhile working in this position, the employee is required to frequently walk, lift up to 50 pounds and drive; occasionally sit, climb, lift over 50 pounds, push and pull up to and over 40 pounds, reach and perform repetitive motions; and rarely stoop/kneel and crawlWhile working in this position, the employee is required to constantly work indoors and walk on uneven ground; frequently work outdoors, in dirty/dusty environments; occasionally in hot/cold temperatures, noisy environments, near chemicals/fumes and potential exposure to infectious diseases; and rarely work in confined spaces, at heights, near machinery and required protective equipment requiredAdditional Information / Examination ProcessEmployees in this classification are designated as Non-EssentialAvailable for varied working hours as needed and available for on call emergency situationsAll current licenses must be maintained throughout employment and on file with the County and City for the purpose of obtaining permits for County workExamination process (may include): 1) An evaluation of training and experience 2) One or more interviews 3) A pre-employment physical examination and drug test 4) A pre-employment background investigation conducted by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office
