RN Clinical Coordinator - 2E: Med Surg/ Ortho (Night)

RN, Clinical CoordinatorThe RN, Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the maintenance and coordination of quality patient care on a continuing basis while under the guidance and direction of the Nurse Manager. The Clinical Coordinator practices within the guidelines of the Nursing Care standards and hospital policies and procedures, and functions as the Charge Nurse for the designated unit. Additionally, the Clinical Coordinator manages staff training in conjunction with the assigned Nurse Educator, and provides administrative coverage for the Nurse Manager in their absence.Direct and supervise patient care during assigned shiftsMake rounds on all patients to ensure that current clinical patient care standards are being metAnalyze shift workload to determine the number of employees needed to ensure adequate staffingProactively pursue coverage for call-ins and unexpected staffing needs in conjunction with the Nurse ManagerCoordinate patient transfers, admissions, and discharges in a timely manner to ensure effective patient throughputMake bed allocations and patient assignments according to staff's documented and demonstrated competenceConsult with and keep the Nurse Manager informed of unit activities, needs, and problemsFacilitate the daily operations and workflow on assigned areasOrganize and reprioritize work based on staff needs, patient needs, available resources, and unit requirementsDemonstrate consistent ability/competence in patient care areasFunction independently with most procedures/protocols, except for those which require the assistance of a physicianRecognize limitations and seek the appropriate assistance when neededDemonstrate an ability to respond in a timely and effective manner to emergency situationsCollaborate with the Nurse Manager, making recommendations for transfers, promotions, and the Identification of areas requiring staff developmentEstablish and maintain a collaborative relationship with the off-tour supervisor to foster problem-solving activitiesFoster a spirit of teamwork within assigned area(s)Make immediate administrative decisions as necessary in the absence of the Nurse ManagerAssign preceptors for departmental new hiresMonitor the progress of all new hires within the departmentAssess team members clinical competency through observation, testing, return demonstration and evaluation of the occurrences of variances to standards of careServe as a mentor and resource to students, new hires, LPNs, floating/flexi nurses, and unlicensed personnelProvide feedback regarding employee performance and clinical experience to the Nurse Manager and employeeCoordinate necessary staff development and unit-based educational needs utilizing the Clinical Nurse EducatorEducation and Experience Minimum Required Education: Must be a Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Virginia or compact state. Specialty areas may require further education.Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Experience: 2+ years' experience in a specialized area with Charge Nurse or equivalent supervisory experience Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Applicant must be licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and certified in BLS, ACLS, PALS, or the equivalent.
