Manager, Project Development

What The Role Is Reporting to the Sr. Director, Project Development, the Manager, Project Development is responsible for developing wind, solar, and energy storage projects in the Central region. The role leads a portfolio of projects, collaborating with Origination, Engineering, Project Finance, and Construction teams to move projects through the full lifecycle to commercial operation. Applicants should have prior renewable‑energy project development experience covering siting, land and real estate, regulatory and environmental permitting, interconnection, transmission, and power marketing. Experience with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) engagement and successful project financing is required. Preferred: experience across multiple technologies and in markets such as MISO, ERCOT, or SPP. What You’ll Be Doing Maintain industry relationships and stay current on market drivers to support proactive development and early‑mover positioning. Lead the development of complex large‑scale renewable energy projects from siting through permitting, design, interconnection, approval, contracting, financing, and handover to construction. Identify and implement creative or alternative development approaches that reduce permitting risk, optimize schedules, or add value. Conduct due diligence on development‑stage projects and portfolio acquisitions, prioritizing opportunities based on common metrics. Administer development services agreements with local and regional partners and manage a network of stakeholders such as technical consultants, surveyors, and land persons. Collaborate with engineering and external consultants to evaluate site layouts, constraints, technology options, scheduling, and interconnection requirements. Coordinate and provide input to project interconnection requests, load‑flow and congestion studies, and other aspects of securing transmission. Negotiate and conduct due diligence on critical contracts and agreements, including PPAs, GIAs, equipment supply agreements, and EPC contracts. Review project pro forma models critically. Lead financing diligence to secure cash equity, tax equity, and/or project debt commitments prior to construction and at term conversion. Market development‑stage projects for new power purchase and offtake agreements, including RFP responses in coordination with origination. Create and manage project budgets and schedules, navigating internal stage‑gate reviews and investment decisions. What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, economics, finance, environmental science, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years in the U.S. renewable‑energy industry with full‑life‑cycle development of utility‑scale solar and/or wind projects. Experience in land development, including landowner engagement, title resolution, subdivision, agricultural land use, water restrictions, ALTA surveys, GIS, and related real‑estate elements. Experience managing project schedules and budgets, understanding key commercial and financial levers. Experience managing cross‑functional teams and external stakeholders to execute a development strategy. Understanding of wind, solar, and storage life cycles is preferred. Knowledge of governmental mandates, environmental regulations, or market signals affecting development in MISO, ERCOT, or SPP. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement. Ability to manage simultaneous projects, set priorities, and exercise independent judgment. Willingness to travel as required (greater than 25 percent). What Would Be Nice Advanced study in business, finance, law, environmental science, or public policy. Battery storage experience. The role is eligible for an annual cash bonus subject to performance goals.
