About This Job Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services. The Louisiana Department of Corrections (DOC) promotes public safety and strengthens communities through fair, professional, and responsive corrections services. The position is located at the Dixon Correctional Institute in Jackson, LA. Position Licensed Practical Nurse – Nursing Department. Responsibilities Implement selective aspects of the nursing care plan (comfort, hygiene, safety measures, nutrition, etc.) under progressively more generalized supervision from a Registered Nurse or higher-level Practical Nurse. Observe patients for changes in physical and/or mental status or behavior and report significant changes. Obtain specimens for laboratory testing as assigned. Takes vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure. Administers medication and treatments in accordance with policies and procedures. Transcribes physicians’ orders and records medication and the patient’s condition on the patient’s charts and other records. Receives and gives change of shift reports. Requests stock drugs, medications, and supplies as assigned. Administers CPR in emergency situations. Admits, transfers, and discharges patients. Gathers information about the patient’s past and current physical and mental status. Qualifications Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state. Capacity to work in a 24‑hour correctional facility and serve shift work. All qualifications must be verified with official documentation prior to hire. When applicable, any college credit or hours must be verified with transcripts. Authorization to comply with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) for background checks. Compensation Licensed Practical Nurse 1 – Special Entrance Rate of $19.48 per hour. Licensed Practical Nurse 2 – Special Entrance Rate of $20.84 per hour. Licensed Practical Nurse 3 – Special Entrance Rate of $22.30 per hour. Additional premium pay of $5.00 per hour. Benefits Defined benefit pension plan. Health insurance available post‑retirement.
