Job Title: Cardiovascular OR Specialty Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Registered Nurse - Inpatient Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: - At least one year of Cardiovascular OR experience, including CVOR Residents preferred. - Sufficient experience in a cardiovascular specialty to function in the team leader role and to serve as a resource to peers preferred. - Demonstrates excellent skills in the circulating role preferred. - Dual role of scrub and circulating preferred. License: - RN - Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact Certifications: - ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or equivalent within 180 Days - BLS - Basic Life Support or equivalent - Current CPR certification Must-Have: - A thorough knowledge of new trends and techniques in cardiovascular surgery. - Ability to multi-task using critical thinking skills and anticipate surgeons' and surgical teams' needs. - Capable of prioritizing appropriate patient care in emergency situations. - Flexible in hours and work shifts due to the need for continued patient care. Description: The Cardiovascular OR Specialty Nurse functions under the direction of the Department Manager and Clinical Coordinator. This nurse is responsible for implementing the nursing process based on expanded knowledge and experience. The nurse is tasked with providing patient care that is age appropriate. Care provided addresses the biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs of the patient and family/support system. The Cardiovascular OR Specialty Nurse delivers patient care in complex, urgent, emergent, and life-saving situations. In addition, this nurse coordinates surgical suite activities and prioritizes surgical team tasks in emergent situations. Participation in staff development and professional self-development is expected. This nurse serves as a role model and team leader, assisting others in their responsibilities for patient care and organizational support. The position requires functioning full-time as a circulator or surgical tech during peak surgery hours. Weekend and holiday call coverage is required, and some charge nurse responsibilities may be expected. Key responsibilities include coordinating perioperative patient care and maintaining a high level of patient safety. Collaboration with healthcare team members in planning patient care is essential. The nurse must document patient care legibly, accurately, and in accordance with guidelines. Supporting fiscal accountability for human and material resources is critical. The role promotes shared governance and evidence-based practice. The nurse functions independently across a broad range of surgical specialties and manages assigned surgical specialties for flow and cost containment. There is a focus on maintaining 12 contact hours per year and adherence to policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. The role demands excellent organizational skills and effective communication in stressful situations.
