Job Description

Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive care. Primary responsibilities include direct patient care, patient/family teaching, symptom management, counseling, and supportive role to assist the patients and their families. May require specialized skills depending on location/unit/specialty assignment.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions:

• Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients.
• Writes initial nursing histories, assesses patients' conditions and develops individual care plans for patients.
• Carries out physician orders such as administering prescribed medications or treatments, preparing an operating room, order lab tests, x-rays, etc...
• Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning. Monitors and restocks supplies.
• Assists provider during examinations, non-operative and operative procedures.
• Maintains aseptic techniques; actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
• Assists in patient care related activities such as changes dressings, cleans wounds, monitors vital signs, starting IV solutions and inserting tubes.
• Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members.
• Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties.
• Prepares and maintains records of patient charges.
• Variation of duties may result based on the assigned customer care unit(s). This may include differences in the specific clinical skills required of the RN. SYS-NURS-L Nursing Education Requirements Policy outlines current certification(s) required for specific areas of nursing practice and is considered to be part of the job description.
• In addition to requirements specified in the license and certification section below, current BLS certification for all areas of nursing practice is required.
• Current certification may be required for the following areas of nursing practice:
• Emergency Care Center ACLS, PALS
• Intensive Care Center & MSCC Lead ACLS, PALS
• L&D ACLS, NRP - Experienced L&D nurses will obtain within 6 months and new L&D nurses will obtain at 1 year of experience
• NICU NRP
• PEDS PALS
• PCC/PACU/ENDO ACLS, PALS
• Procedural ACLS
• Common Expectations:

• Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
• Enters and/or retrieves data from established computer files using knowledge of various computer software applications.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

• Diploma Program Required or
• Associates Degree Required
• Bachelors Degree Nursing (BSN) Preferred

Work Experience:

• 1 year Nursing experience. Required

Licenses:

• Licensed Registered Nurse Upon Hire Required or
• Registered Nurse Multi State License Upon Hire Required and
• Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support Upon Hire Preferred
