Certified Medical Assistant - Primary Care Group (Creekside/Woodlands)

At Houston Methodist, the Medical Assistant Certified (MA) position is responsible for assisting in the examination and treatment of patients under the direct supervision of the clinical or administrative leadership. This role aids providers in the administration of patient care in assigned clinical areas, including patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatment, and dressing changes. The MA also performs general administrative duties in accordance with CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA, government standards, and company policies. Responsibilities may include scheduling patient appointments, ensuring medical‑necessity compliance, and verifying eligibility for care.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

High School diploma or equivalent education (e.g., GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post‑secondary education, etc.)

EXPERIENCE

Two years of Medical Assistant experience in a clinic/outpatient setting or one year in the Novice‑II position

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA, or Registered Medical Assistant or EMT Preferred CPT – Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ACA)

Provides care to patients visiting the clinic under direct supervision of a physician, RN, or clinic leadership, anticipating needs of the specific patient population Obtains and documents vital signs, chief complaints, medication reviews, medical and social history, and records all data in the electronic medical record per established policies Facilitates follow‑up to ensure compliance with recommendations, lab/x‑ray results, special visits, and patient portal activation Contributes to improvement of department patient‑satisfaction scores through peer‑to‑peer accountability QUALITY/Safety Prepares treatment rooms and assists with equipment and supplies maintenance Reports observations, conditions, and problems to physicians or nurses to achieve desired outcomes, safeguarding patient privacy and safety Sterilizes instruments and equipment under supervision of a senior medical assistant or RN Identifies improvement activities impacting quality and safety targets via peer‑to‑peer accountability and near‑miss reporting
