Surgical Technologist

Job Overview Fairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Technologist for the Operating Room at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank and M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital locations in Minneapolis, MN. This is a 0.8 FTE (64 hours per two week pay period), benefits-eligible opening on night shift (11PM - 7AM), no weekends, optional call, rotating holidays. As a Surgical Technologist, you’ll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging, and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room. About our OR at UMMC West Bank We are a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Minnesota and in turn has students, residents, fellows placed in this OR daily. The West Bank has 15 operating rooms, 1 EP Lab, and 1 Cath Lab. We are performing an average of 36 cases per day. High Volume Ortho/Spine/Oral (mainly adults), Peds CV-Hearts/Cardio Thoracic Peds, Neuro/Generals/Urology/Bariatrics, Peds Transplant, Adult Urology, Benign GYN, ENT/Eye/Plastics, Peds Dental, Robotic DaVinci. We provide innovative surgical suites for adult and pediatric patients needing surgical intervention. We are currently renovating additional ORs to complement the existing 4 larger ORs, as well as creating new locker room and OR storage space. Our strong team is continuing to grow even stronger as we offer cross service training under the guidance of our scrub tech supervisor and scrub tech educator. Come join our team today! Responsibilities Serves as scrub person during operative procedures Anticipates surgeon’s needs Supplies appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items. Maintains aseptic technique during all sterile procedures. Assures proper identification and handling of specimens.Completes all required sponge, sharps, and instrument counts. Follows appropriate action in emergency situations. Provides patient care Adheres to standards of clinical practice and patient care appropriate to the age of the patients. Assists in transfer/positioning of patients. Collaborates with the MD and circulating nurse to provide care for each patient. Respects the confidentiality of all information. Corrects use and setup of supplies and equipment Assures availability and proper functioning of supplies and equipment. Assembles and adjust equipment. Cleans, replenishes, and sterilizes instruments and supplies as needed. Participates in the evaluation of new equipment or supplies. Assists other members of the team with terminal cleaning of room in readiness of next patient. Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served. Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making. Communicates in a respective manner. Ensures a safe, secure environment. Individualizes plan of care to meet patient needs. Modifies clinical interventions based on population served. Provides patient education based on as assessment of learning needs of patient/care giver.
