Junior Backend Software Developer

Salary: $84,000 - 87,000 per year Requirements:

  • We require a bachelors degree plus at least 3 years of experience, or an associates degree plus at least 5 years of experience.
  • We require an active Tier 3 Secret clearance or higher.
  • We require strong Java and object-oriented programming skills.
  • We require hands-on experience building microservices, REST APIs, and cloud-native applications.
  • We require practical experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and automated deployment workflows.
  • We require experience designing, developing, and running solutions in AWS or another cloud platform.
  • We require experience with event-driven architectures and at least two of the following: Apache Kafka, pub/sub patterns, streaming, or event sourcing.
  • We require experience working in GitOps environments such as GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket, or ArgoCD.
  • We require experience working in Agile settings, including Scrum or SAFe ceremonies.
  • We prefer familiarity with Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.

Responsibilities:
  • We develop, build, and adapt application software and specialized utility programs.
  • We create microservices in a cloud-native environment.
  • We operate an enterprise-scale production system, troubleshoot issues, and resolve incidents.
  • We analyze user needs to produce software solutions aligned with business and mission objectives.
  • We design and assess databases within application areas, either independently or as part of a team.
  • We apply computer science, engineering, mathematical analysis, and distributed systems principles.
  • We take part in code reviews, pair programming, and mentoring to strengthen engineering quality.
  • We collaborate with DevOps, QA, Security, Product, and Architecture teams.
  • We migrate legacy mainframe functionality to a cloud-based environment in AWS GovCloud.
  • We help move investigative search capabilities to Elasticsearch or similar tools to improve speed and analytical performance.
  • We build new microservices on OpenShift-based container platforms using scalable cloud-native patterns.
  • We implement full-stack components where needed, including UI integration layers with modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • We support event-driven architectures and high-throughput data processing systems.
  • We participate in a rotating on-call schedule one week out of every four, acknowledge contacts promptly, and begin troubleshooting within the required time window.
