College Arts and Letters Position Title 2026-27 AY Lecturer Pool – Liberal Studies Department Liberal Studies Department, College of Arts and Letters, Cal State LA Position Details The Liberal Studies Department seeks applications for a pool of part‑time faculty lecturers for the 2026‑2027 academic year. Positions will be filled as needed each semester based on enrollment and budget needs. Initial appointments typically last one semester; occasionally an academic year. Appointments may be renewed on the basis of department needs, funding, and performance. Often appointments are made just before the start of the semester, so faculty may be required to be available on short notice. Minimum Qualifications Appropriate degree from an accredited university: master’s for upper‑division undergraduate courses; bachelor’s plus substantial teaching experience for lower‑division courses; doctoral, or master’s plus substantial teaching experience for graduate courses. Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level. Ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment. Demonstrated commitment to student‑centered learning and teaching. Proficiency in written and oral use of the English language. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, inclusive environment. Relevant work experience and training. Appropriate doctoral or terminal degree. Expertise in Liberal Studies or other interdisciplinary fields. Experience in equity‑and‑justice based teaching approaches. Experience in LGBTQ‑, neurodiverse‑relevant pedagogies. Experience in civic/community engagement, service learning, or other experiential learning. Duties Instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Additional duties may be assigned as needed by the department. Course assignments, dates, time, and modality are determined by the Department Chair under the College Dean’s direction. Collaborate or consult with tutors and academic support staff. Salary Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary ranges (per the 7/1/2024 schedule): Lecturer A/2 Full‑time equivalent: $5,507 – $6,677 per month Lecturer B/3 FTE: $6,221 – $13,224 per month Lecturer C/4 FTE: $6,835 – $14,523 per month Lecturer D/5 FTE: $8,593 – $15,211 per month Required Documentation Cover letter addressing minimum and preferred qualifications.
