South Chicago area, IL | Hybrid, 3 days onsite weekly

A well-established industrial manufacturer is seeking an Accounting Manager to help lead its corporate accounting function. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity within a lean, collaborative team where the Accounting Manager will oversee close and financial reporting, support a complex inventory environment, and work directly with senior finance leadership.

Accounting Manager Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules
• Prepare monthly financial statements and management reporting packages
• Analyze financial results and explain material variances
• Maintain general ledger integrity and financial reporting accuracy
• Oversee accounting for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods inventory
• Support fixed assets and other operational accounting activities
• Coordinate and support the annual external audit
• Maintain and strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls
• Manage, mentor, and develop one to two accounting team members
• Partner with financial planning and analysis, treasury, human resources, and operations
• Identify and implement accounting process improvements
• Support special projects and other accounting initiatives

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• 3+ years of public accounting audit experience
• Manufacturing accounting experience
• Prior accounting leadership or staff supervision experience
• Strong inventory accounting experience, including raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods
• Experience leading the month-end close
• Financial statement preparation and financial analysis experience
• Experience working within a small or mid-sized company environment
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, and XLOOKUPs
• Ability to manage competing deadlines in a hands-on operating environment

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA
• SAP or comparable ERP experience
• Experience supporting external audits
• Cost accounting exposure
• Experience improving accounting processes, controls, or reporting
