Primary Purpose

To evaluate, treat, consult, provide, and deliver services as required by Galena Park ISD.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Certification: Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution or grandfathered in with a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution Valid Texas License as an occupational therapist granted by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of occupational therapy assessments, therapeutic/occupational-based activities, and equipment used in school-based practice. Effective/efficient oral and written communication skills. Efficient mobility within the work site. Reliable transportation to/from work and between work sites Knowledge of special education and related service policies Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records. General knowledge of computer systems and software applications. Minimum Experience: Experience in pediatrics and/or the school setting preferred. One year of experience is preferred.

Major Job Responsibilities and Duties

1. Understand the differences between school-based and medical-based pediatric occupational therapy. 2. Assist in referral and identification processes through screening, information review, and consultation with educational staff as appropriate. 3. Determine student eligibility for therapy services through appropriate assessment procedures. 4. Complete well-written assessment reports in a timely manner. 5. Interpret and disseminate assessment information to the ARD committee. 6. Conduct periodic reassessment of therapy objectives as indicated by student needs. 7. Consult/collaborate with professionals, paraprofessionals, parents, and students. 8. Conduct training for school personnel, parents, and students. 9. Provide direct treatment and consultation to students based on individualized education programs and family service plans. 10. Document and maintain service-related records, including medical referrals. 11. Supervise COTAs as necessary. 12. Serve as OT/COTA student fieldwork supervisor for long or short-term students. 13. Interact constructively with a variety of professionals, age groups, cultures, families, and socio-economic groups. 14. Maintain a dependable attendance record. 15. Maintain confidentiality of information. 16. Perform other duties as assigned. 17. Update and revise working forms, policies, and procedures as necessary to meet guidelines. 18. Serve on assistive technology teams.

Varied working environments and temperatures. Varied stressful interpersonal situations and crisis management. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, bacteria, and bloodborne pathogens. Driving a motor vehicle to multiple work sites within the structured time frame. Lifting, transferring, and transporting students and therapy testing materials weighing up to 40 pounds. Frequent standing, stooping bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and regular moderate/heavy lifting of students.
