Public Relations Manager

As part of the Global PR and Media Relations team, the Senior Manager, Global PR & Media Relations generates positive media coverage of San Francisco as a premier destination for meetings, events and leisure travel and San Francisco Travel as its official destination marketing organization. We are the go-to resource for all things San Francisco and tourism. The Senior Global PR & Media Relations Manager plays a key role in executing PR programs and driving media coverage that showcases San Francisco’s attractions, iconic sights, events, hotels, restaurants and more. The position will work with our PR agencies and partner with Convention Sales and Services to promote meetings in the city. What You'll Be Doing Earned Media Proactively pitch media, respond to queries, follow up on editorial opportunities and research new media outlets. Coordinate group press trips and individual influencer and media visits. Cultivate and maintain relationships with influential print, digital and broadcast media and SF Travel members’ PR and marketing teams. Represent San Francisco Travel at international and domestic media events, missions and tradeshows and attend media dinners and events in San Francisco as needed. PR Planning and Program Execution Write and distribute press materials, including press releases, customized pitches and media itineraries. Develop and implement PR campaigns. Coordinate with marketing team members to post PR content on social media channels and website. Assist with planning and organizing press events and media missions. Analysis and Administrative Support Track, analyze and report on media coverage using San Francisco Travel’s third-party platforms and reporting standards. Manage Media Relations data. Build and maintain contact databases, track assisted media and donated services. Run reports as needed. Assist VP Global PR & Media Relations with budgeting, accounting and other administrative tasks. Other duties may be assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience Education and/or training equivalent to college graduate . Degree or experience in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field a plus. 5+ years of PR/marketing communications experience, preferably within tourism and hospitality. Skills and Abilities Self-motivated with a proven track record of meeting deadlines, managing projects and securing editorial coverage. Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills. Talent for building and developing relationships internally and externally. Strong organizational skills and an excellent eye for detail. Knowledge of San Francisco and a passion for the Bay Area. Energetic, can-do attitude and love of learning and sharing new things. Possess a professional network that includes regional and/or national media, freelancers and influencers. Knowledge of the evolving media landscape and communications channels. Experience working in Salesforce, Asana and/or Muckrack a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Strong organizational, interpersonal and computer skills necessary. Ability to communicate and work well with others in a professional office environment. Compensation Salary Range: $110,000–$135,000 base compensation annually. Additional opportunity for annual incentive compensation based on performance and organizational results.
