Firefighter/Paramedic

The City of Boca Raton, Fire Rescue Services Division is now accepting applications for Firefighter/Paramedic. Annual salary: $87,405.61 - All rates effective October 1, 2026 (this includes base salary of $74,705.65 plus 17% paramedic certification pay).

May be eligible to receive incentive pay of $2,882.88 annually for up to two certification incentives for the following:

1. Fire Safety Inspector - certification from the State of Florida as a certified Fire Safety Inspector I or II
2. Fire Officer - certification from the State of Florida as a certified Fire Officer I, II, III or IV
3. Instructor (Fire Service) - certification from the State of Florida as a certified Instructor III
4. Technical Rescue Technician ("TRT") - completion of the following four courses:
1. FLUSAR Confined Space Rescue Technician
2. FLUSAR Rope Rescue Technician
3. FLUSAR Vehicle & Machinery Rescue Technician
4. FLUSAR Trench Rescue Technician
5. Hazardous Material Technician - Must be certified by the State of Florida and must meet and maintain the departmental standards for a Hazardous Material Technician.

Those who meet the requirements for Hazardous Material Technician as defined above may receive a third incentive pay of $2,882.88 annually. Total available incentives for the certifications listed above is $8,648.64 annually.

To be considered for this position you must meet one (1) of the following requirements:

• Certified as a State of Florida Firefighter AND Certified as a State of Florida Paramedic
• Certified as a State of Florida Paramedic AND Enrolled in Firefighter School (proof of anticipated graduation date must be provided and must be December 18, 2026, or sooner)
• Certified as a State of Florida Firefighter AND Enrolled in Paramedic School (proof of anticipated graduation date must be provided and must be December 18, 2026, or sooner)

All copies of certifications (Firefighter, Paramedic, Basic Life Support) and IS-level courses must be attached and submitted with your application. If you meet either Requirement B or C from above, in addition to attaching a copy of the certification that you DO possess; you will be required to provide documentation from the school that you are attending indicating your anticipated graduation date. This documentation must be on school letterhead and included with your application. We do not accept transcripts or class schedule as proof of enrollment or anticipated graduation date. Dual certification in both State of Florida Firefighter AND Paramedic is required before the extension of an employment offer will be made. Failure to provide copies of all documentation will result in your application not being forwarded for consideration. In addition to meeting one (1) of the above; candidates must also:

• Take the CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) from a certified agency as approved by the IAFF. The CPAT is valid for one (1) year. The City of Boca Raton only accepts CPAT results from Palm Beach State College or another agency in the National Testing Network.
• Possess a current BLS for the Healthcare Provider Certification from American Heart Association. We do not accept BLS from any other agency other than American Heart Association.
• Possess a valid State of Florida driver's license.

About the Firefighter/Paramedic Application Process: To be considered for employment with the City of Boca Raton, applicants must provide at least ten (10) years of continuous employment history, if applicable. In the event the applicant has not been employed for ten (10) continuous years, all time for the ten (10) year period prior to the date of application must be accounted for including periods of school, unemployment and retirement. Applicants who qualify will be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to evaluation of training and experience; written test; EMS Exam; Fire Exam, swim test, interview; polygraph examination; psychological evaluation; employment record review, and background check including complete driving record history; medical examination; and drug screen.

General definition of work: Performs a variety of firefighter/paramedic duties under the general supervision of the company officer. Work is performed under the guidance of the departmental medical protocols, rules, regulations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and/or standard operating guidelines (SOGs).
