Adjunct Faculty - Education and Child Development Pool

The Whittier College Teacher Education Program invites applicants for its adjunct pool. We welcome applications from individuals interested in working within our Multiple Subject, Single Subject (in the areas of Mathematics, Science, Social Science, English Language Arts, and Physical Education), and Education Specialist (Mild-to-Moderate Support Needs and Extensive Support Needs) Credential Programs, as well as our Master of Arts in Teaching Program. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions are available. Appointments from the adjunct pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available to teach in‑person courses located on Whittier College’s campus on very short notice. Exempt Status: Exempt (bi-weekly) Hours: Courses are offered once per week from 5:00‑7:50 p.m., Monday through Thursday Full Time/Part Time status: Part Time Semester: TBD Salary: $2,250–$6,750. Compensation is set at $2,250 per credit, with the final payment determined by the total number of credits assigned to the course Reports to: Department Chair Location/Department: Whittier College, Department of Education & Child Development Responsibilities Work with the Department Chair and/or designated member of the faculty to understand Whittier College’s teacher education programs and how the course they teach fits within relevant scopes & sequences. Participate in the Faculty-Adjunct Kick-Off held just prior to the academic term. Plan and deliver instruction for the designated course. Monitor student learning, assign, and input final grades. Hold weekly office hours (in person or via Zoom). Position Qualifications and Requirements MA or MS or Ph.D., or Ed.D. in education or related field (depending on the program) Minimum of three years' experience as a credentialed teacher of culturally and linguistically diverse adolescents OR 3 years equivalent experience (describe the equivalent experience) Knowledge of CA K-12 content standards and frameworks Evidence of experience and commitment to teaching college students of diverse backgrounds and/or preparing teachers for diverse student populations (e.g., course syllabus or professional development agenda/presentation, sample assignment or workshop activity, instructional materials highlighting differentiation strategies, etc.). Preferred Qualifications Experience implementing culturally relevant and social justice pedagogies Experience supporting teachers, teacher candidates, and/or new teachers.
