Application Developer

The role of the Application Developer is to assist in the migration of critical systems, such as Banner and Oracle Portal. This position will be expected to identify problems in existing code, develop new code and scripts, and produce innovative solutions to business situations as they arise.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications)

• Working knowledge of programming concepts
• Experience within a higher-education environment
• Experience with regular expressions
• Experience with student information systems, such as Ellucian Banner
• Exposure to agile development methodologies

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*:

• Create and maintain database objects (tables, views, stored procedures, functions, and packages) that satisfy ACID properties
• Produce coding which meets functional specifications accurately and with an appropriate level of robustness to handle errors and unexpected content
• Code will be documented (purpose and code logic), clearly organized, structured, and reusable following organizational standards
  Understands the necessity of and contributes to coding standards
• Resolve issues and provide corrective actions
• Communicate with project management about status of work and any issues with work in progress
• Support and maintain code to meet business objectives by enhancing, optimizing, and debugging as needed
• Responsible for developing and maintaining data exchanges to and from third party applications, as well as real-time integrations
• Identify appropriate libraries/frameworks/languages that best solve a given problem
• Troubleshooting and resolving issues discovered with locally developed applications
• Develop secure software (see OWASP), such as protecting against SQL injection and input guarding
• Design and implement local and enterprise-wide software applications
• Mentoring team members
• Communicate regularly and effectively with both management and customers regarding project and application activity status
• Coordinating activities of the project team and reporting project status to both management and customer
• Oversee team's completion of assigned service tickets, tasks, and projects
• Support other tasks and responsibilities as assigned or directed by management

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES*:

• Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications
• Ability to write code that utilizes complex programming algorithms and data structures
• Understanding of software design patterns, such as model-view-controller and object-oriented methodologies
• Experience with web frameworks and technologies such as ASP.NET, ASP Classic, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, JSON, VBScript, Visual Studio, XML
• Ability to accurately estimate development times and meet deadlines
• Ability to use IDEs and basic debugging tools
• Ability to analyze and implement complex workflows and flowcharts
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages, such as Python and PL/SQL
• Proficiency in software development life cycles
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
