General Attorney (Labor) (Appellate Litigation Attorney)

Position Overview This position is located in the Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation Branch of the Division of Enforcement Litigation. The Branch conducts the litigation in the U.S. Court of Appeals involving the enforcement or review of Board Orders. The incumbent serves as a General Attorney (Labor) working under the supervision of the Branch Chief or a Supervisory Attorney, preparing assigned cases involving enforcement litigation in the U.S. Court of Appeals, and litigation in the U.S. Supreme Court. All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Ideal Candidate Statement The ideal candidate for the General Attorney (Labor) will have working knowledge in traditional labor or employment law. The candidate has demonstrated an ability to provide expert legal analysis and advocacy in an efficient manner on complicated matters. The candidate has experience drafting complex legal arguments and has exemplary legal research and written and oral communications skills. Basic Requirement Education: Must have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.). Law school transcripts must be submitted at the time of application. Bar Membership and Certification: Must currently be a member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Your active Bar license must reference Bar number and indicate the status of good standing. Agency Internal Self-Certification Forms are not acceptable for verification. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which has provided them with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a General Attorney (Labor) (Appellate Litigation Attorney) at the GS-14 grade level. Specialized experience includes: Experience independently working with federal labor law (e.g., the National Labor Relations Act, the Federal Labor Relations Act, or Equal Employment Opportunity statutes) or state labor laws to provide guidance and recommendations on case law. Experience independently researching statutes, decisions, opinions, or legislative history to ensure the appropriate use of legal authorities. Experience independently drafting legal memoranda or briefs. Experience independently presenting oral arguments or making other oral presentations recommending disposition of cases. This experience must be fully supported and articulated in your resume to receive consideration. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
