Position Details Job Code: JC-519313 Position #: 911-350-3609-003 Working Title: Transportation Electrical Engineer Classification: Transportation Engineer (Electrical) Job Description and Duties Under the direction of the Senior Transportation Electrical Engineer, Supervisor (Branch Chief, Electrical Systems), the Transportation Electrical Engineer performs a wide variety of professional electrical and electronic engineering responsibilities in support of the Traffic Safety & Operations Division‑Transportation Management Center. Responsibilities include: Planning, designing, operating, analyzing, and performing Transportation Management Systems (TMS). Conducting engineering analysis, system optimization, and asset management. Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to improve system reliability, mobility, and safety on the State Highway System. As experience grows, serving as lead on electrical and electronic engineering activities. Qualifications Appointment to Class D requires a valid certificate of registration as an electrical engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Pass the TE Electrical written exam (online or in‑person hurdle). Exam eligibility may be determined by score on the TE Electrical exam. Valid driver’s license required for operating a State‑owned or leased vehicle. Basic educational requirement: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related field; ABET accreditation preferred. Prior professional experience in transportation electrical or electronic engineering is required (reference pattern II qualifications). Special Requirements Must pass a Department of Justice background check. Annual sign‑off of CHP Form 101A.
