At BusRight, we are building the modern operating system for school transportation, helping districts manage routing, driver navigation, live GPS tracking, student transportation data, and communication with families.

We are looking for a Technical Support Engineer who enjoys understanding complex systems, debugging production issues, writing code, and building tools that make both our product and our teams more effective.

The Role

This is a hands on technical engineering role focused on investigating real world system behavior and building solutions.

You will work across our application, APIs, logs, data integrations, GPS systems, hardware, and codebase to understand how things work and why they sometimes do not.

A meaningful part of the role involves writing, improving, and maintaining TypeScript and JavaScript scripts and internal tools. These may help investigate production behavior, analyze customer data, automate operational workflows, validate integrations, or provide functionality that does not yet exist in the product.

You will also own complex customer reported issues from investigation through resolution, working directly with Engineering, Product, Customer Success, and customers when needed.

What You Will Do
• Investigate complex production issues across application behavior, APIs, logs, integrations, data, GPS, and hardware
• Read and understand existing TypeScript and JavaScript code to trace system behavior and identify root causes
• Write new TypeScript and JavaScript scripts to solve technical and operational problems
• Maintain and improve existing internal scripts and tools as requirements and systems evolve
• Build custom tooling for data analysis, troubleshooting, validation, reporting, and internal workflows
• Work with APIs and large datasets to investigate issues and build solutions
• Reproduce bugs and provide Engineering with clear technical findings, evidence, and recommended next steps
• Troubleshoot Student Information System integrations and data synchronization issues
• Investigate GPS, tablet, connectivity, and other deployed hardware behavior
• Identify repetitive work and replace it with automation, tooling, or better internal systems
• Use AI assisted workflows to accelerate coding, debugging, investigation, and technical problem solving
• Own complex customer reported issues through resolution and ensure technical problems do not get lost between teams

What We Are Looking For
• 2+ years of experience in support engineering, software engineering, solutions engineering, technical support, or a similar technical role
• Strong TypeScript or JavaScript experience, including the ability to understand existing code and write new scripts independently
• Experience debugging software and investigating production system behavior
• Experience working with APIs, logs, backend systems, integrations, and structured data
• Comfortable building internal tools and scripts to solve problems that do not have an existing solution
• Comfortable maintaining code and tooling after the initial solution is built
• Experience analyzing data using SQL, spreadsheets, scripts, or similar tools
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to break ambiguous problems into smaller technical questions
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical findings clearly
• A strong sense of ownership and willingness to drive problems through resolution
• Comfortable working in a fast moving environment where you may need to design the solution rather than follow an existing process
• Experience with or strong interest in using AI as part of everyday engineering work

Why This Role

You will work on problems that span software, data, integrations, GPS, hardware, and real world transportation operations.

One day you might trace an issue through logs and APIs. Another day you might write a TypeScript script to analyze thousands of records, build an internal tool to automate a workflow, or investigate behavior across the application and deployed hardware.

You will work directly with engineers, have access to the systems and data needed to investigate problems deeply, and build solutions when existing product functionality is not enough.

You will not just identify problems. You will understand them, solve them, and build tools that make the next problem easier to solve.
