Medical Assistant

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing clinical and administrative support in a primary care outpatient internal medicine clinic. Key functions include obtaining vital signs, performing 12-lead EKGs, assisting with procedures such as nebulizer treatments and immunizations, specimen collection, laboratory testing, and handling office duties like pharmacy calls and telephone triage. The role requires strong clinical skills, proficiency with EPIC charting, and the ability to work collaboratively within the healthcare team in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Obtain and record vital signs and patient history, medications, and allergies.
Perform 12-lead EKG/ECG tests.
Prepare patients for exams and assist with procedures including nebulizer treatments and suture removal.
Administer immunizations and TB tests.
Collect and label specimens such as throat swabs, urine samples, and perform venipuncture.
Conduct blood glucose testing via glucometer.
Handle pharmacy calls and patient refill requests.
Perform telephone triage and follow-up phone calls.
Room patients and maintain clinical workflow.

Required Skills & Certifications:

Certified Medical Assistant (MA-C) preferred; Medical Assistant-Registered (MA-R) accepted only with prior Swedish experience.
Minimum 1 year experience in an adult outpatient/internal medicine clinic setting.
Proficiency in obtaining vital signs and performing 12-lead EKGs.
Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to perform venipuncture and specimen collection.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

Experience with telephone triage and pharmacy refill coordination.
Recent experience with suture removal.
Previous exposure to primary care clinical procedures and workflow.

Special Considerations:

No weekend or on-call requirements.
Position covers an unexpected leave; consistent location with no floating between units.
Open to both local and non-local candidates.
Must be willing to convert to permanent employment.

Scheduling:

Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM (five 8-hour shifts).
No weekend shifts or call duties.
