ASI builds training systems for aircrew and maintenance with programs including B‑1, E‑2D, CH‑53E, IMOMS, NSST, navigation, and seamanship. Position Summary The Project Engineer (PE) leads technical and engineering aspects of assigned projects, managing multidisciplinary teams, interfacing with Program Managers, customers, and subcontractors, and ensuring successful project completion. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Technical Leadership & System Integration Serve as the program’s technical authority, responsible for overall technical design, system architecture, and hardware/software integration. Review, approve, and provide technical direction on requirements, specifications, designs, test plans, and technical milestones. Identify and resolve hardware/software integration issues. Oversee engineering release processes to maintain technical integrity and configuration control. Ensure final delivered products represent the target aircraft platform and meet contractual and technical requirements. Program Execution & Engineering Coordination Coordinate and direct engineering activities across training device programs in a matrixed organization. Identify technical risks, integration challenges, and resource constraints, recommending solutions. Communicate technical status, schedule impacts, and risk mitigation strategies to Program Management and stakeholders. Provide engineering support during manufacturing, integration, test, and acceptance phases. Participate as presenter or technical reviewer in internal and external program reviews. Team Leadership & Collaboration Build and support high‑performing multidisciplinary engineering teams. Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to engineers supporting assigned programs. Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and other departments to support program objectives. Lead engineering coordination in a matrix environment with shared functional resources. Customer Engagement & Business Development Act as the primary technical representative during in‑plant and on‑site customer acceptance activities. Interface directly with customers, subcontractors, and vendors to resolve technical issues. Support new business development and proposal efforts by contributing technical expertise. May serve as a technical proposal lead on assigned pursuits. Represent ASI engineering at stakeholder meetings and technical forums as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities Provide technical leadership and task direction to engineering personnel within a matrixed organization. May support performance feedback and technical evaluations, but does not have direct hire/fire authority. Requirements Experience Requirements Minimum 7 years’ engineering experience, including at least 5 years’ developing complex hardware/software systems (required) and/or 3 years’ working on flight‑based training/simulation devices (preferred). Minimum 3 years’ direct experience as a Project Engineer in flight‑based training/simulation systems (preferred). Experience leading and managing engineering teams (required). Experience working with customers and product managers to translate needs into technical requirements (required). Strong background in software development (preferred). Experience with simulator design, development, integration, and testing (preferred). Experience with flight simulation industry standards and regulatory requirements (preferred). Additional Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Effective leadership in a matrix environment. Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers. Adapt communication style for different audiences. Manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously. Work in a project‑oriented, fast‑paced environment to meet deadlines. Knowledge of formal software development practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Visio, SharePoint, and related business software. Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution is strongly preferred. Equivalent military, aerospace, aviation, or industry experience demonstrating progressive technical leadership and system integration expertise may be considered. Advanced degrees (M.S. or higher) in Engineering or related field are a plus but not required. Employment Requirements U.S. Citizenship required. Must successfully pass a background screening. Must obtain and maintain an active DoD security clearance. Work schedule may require occasional overtime and alternate shifts. Must be willing to travel domestically and occasionally internationally. Workplace is drug‑free; employees must undergo pre‑employment and random drug testing. All offers contingent upon successful completion of background checks, security clearance, and drug screening. Physical Requirements Perform normal office duties (sitting for prolonged periods). Travel CONUS/OCONUS via multiple types of transportation including car and airplane. Be able to climb stairs to enter and exit a simulator. Other skills may be required for specific roles. Work Environment Primarily an office environment with low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting, fast‑paced work, and teamwork with internal and external stakeholders.
