The University of Texas Medical Branch seeks a board-certified Thoracic Surgeon to join the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery. This academic faculty opportunity offers the autonomy to build a broad clinical practice while helping shape the division’s next phase of growth. You will provide comprehensive thoracic surgical care, collaborate across specialties, and work with advanced robotic platforms, including single-port technology.
The position also provides meaningful opportunities to teach residents and thoracic fellows, participate in scholarly activities, pursue research interests, and develop a distinct clinical or academic niche. The incoming surgeon will join an established service with the support and institutional resources to expand referrals, strengthen programs, and advance multidisciplinary care.
Opportunity Highlights
- Help grow an academic thoracic surgery division with the potential to expand to a three-surgeon practice
- Maintain a broad practice encompassing thoracic oncology, benign thoracic disease, lung resections, esophageal surgery, complex procedures, and chest wall reconstruction
- Work with a robust robotic surgery program featuring multiple platforms and single-port technology
- Receive support from a dedicated Thoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner, shared advanced practice providers, residents, fellows, administrative staff, and cancer center nurse navigators
- Collaborating with Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Gastroenterology, Trauma, Cardiac Surgery, and multidisciplinary teams
- Teach residents and thoracic surgery fellows in the operating room and clinical environment
- Participate in scholarly activity, publications, and grant-funded research opportunities
- Develop referral relationships, expand physician outreach, and grow market share across a regional clinical platform
- Pursue potential leadership opportunities as the division expands
