We are currently in search of a highly skilled, board-certified cardiac anesthesiologist to take on the role of Division Director of Cardiac Anesthesiology . This position involves providing both strategic and operational guidance for our expanding cardiac anesthesia program, while closely collaborating with departments such as Cardiothoracic Surgery, Structural Heart, Interventional Cardiology, Perfusion Services, and Hospital Administration.

The ideal candidate will be an innovative leader in the medical field, showcasing a proven history of clinical excellence, faculty development, education, quality enhancement, and academic contributions. The Division Director will be tasked with promoting the clinical, educational, and research objectives of the Division, ensuring outstanding perioperative care for patients undergoing intricate cardiac and thoracic surgeries.

This leadership position presents a unique chance to influence the future of cardiac anesthesiology within a nationally recognized academic medical institution and to guide the next generation of anesthesiologists, fellows, residents, and advanced practice providers.

Clinical Leadership:
  • Oversee cardiac anesthesia services throughout our organization.

  • Drive the creation and execution of initiatives aimed at improving patient safety, quality, efficiency, and outcomes in cardiac perioperative care.

  • Work alongside Cardiothoracic Surgery, Structural Heart, Heart Failure, and Interventional Cardiology leaders to enhance patient care pathways and foster program growth.

  • Support the expansion of services related to valve repair and replacement, mechanical circulatory support, transcatheter interventions, aortic surgery, heart failure therapies, and other advanced cardiovascular procedures.

  • Maintain clinical excellence through active involvement in cardiac anesthesia practice.

Operational Management:
  • Oversee the daily clinical operations of the Cardiac Anesthesiology Division.

  • Ensure sufficient staffing, scheduling, and coverage for cardiac operating rooms and procedural areas.

  • Collaborate with departmental leadership on strategic planning, resource distribution, and capital equipment procurement.

  • Establish standardized protocols and evidence-based practices to enhance perioperative outcomes.

  • Track divisional performance metrics and quality indicators.

Education and Mentorship:
  • Provide mentorship and professional growth opportunities for faculty, fellows, residents, and students.

  • Support educational initiatives within our institution and the Department of Anesthesiology.

  • Encourage excellence in perioperative echocardiography education and cardiac anesthesia training.

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and professional development.

Research and Academic Development:
  • Promote scholarship and innovation within the Division of Cardiac Anesthesiology.

  • Collaborate with researchers across our organization on clinical, translational, and outcomes-based studies.

  • Encourage involvement in multicenter studies, quality registries, and clinical trials.

  • Support faculty in enhancing academic productivity, publications, presentations, and securing grant funding.

Faculty Recruitment and Engagement:
  • Lead efforts in recruiting, onboarding, and retaining cardiac anesthesiology faculty.

  • Encourage a culture of collaboration, accountability, wellness, and inclusivity.

  • Assist faculty in advancing their careers through mentorship and leadership development.

Quality and Safety:
  • Collaborate with institutional quality and patient safety teams to promote best practices in perioperative care.

  • Enhance and maintain evidence-based ERAS and perioperative optimization protocols for cardiac surgical patients.

  • Lead ongoing quality improvement initiatives and ensure adherence to national standards and accreditation requirements.

Required Qualifications:
  • MD, DO, or an equivalent foreign degree.

  • Board Certification in Anesthesiology.

  • Completion of a fellowship in Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology.

  • Certification in Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography.

  • Eligibility for unrestricted licensure in New York State.

  • Proven leadership experience in an academic or large clinical practice environment.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated record of academic success, including teaching, research, and scholarly activities.

  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary clinical teams.

  • Background in quality improvement, program development, and operational management.

  • Eligible for appointment at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level.

NEWLY APPROVED COMPENSATION PACKAGE!
  • Competitive base salary range: $525,000 - $625,000.

  • Flexible staffing pattern within a 40-hour work week.

  • Options for both call and no-call tracks.

  • Numerous opportunities for additional call and overtime compensation.

  • Annual bonus of 5% of base salary.

  • Generous sign-on bonus of up to $45,000 and relocation assistance up to $10,000.
