Position: Special Education Paraprofessional Grade 7-12

Salary Range: Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience

Education/Certification: Paraprofessional certification

Pre-Requisite: Active Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) issued IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Reports to: Special Education Administration

Primary Purpose:

The Special Education Paraprofessional provides instructional and clerical support to instructors and students, working under the direction of the certified instructor. They assist with a variety of tasks including one-on-one tutoring, small group instruction, classroom management, and preparation of instructional materials. They also help with administrative duties, such as reviewing and maintaining student records. While this job description is intended to be an accurate reflection of the job requirements, management reserves the right to modify and assign duties as deemed necessary.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Support: This includes assisting instructors with lesson preparation, co-teaching, leading small groups or individual instruction, reinforcing lessons, and providing extra help to students.
  • Student Supervision and Support: They supervise students in various settings, address students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs, help students with special needs access the curriculum, assist with behavior management, and provide basic caregiving.
  • Assisting with the preparation of classroom materials, including copying, cutting, and laminating.
  • Classroom Management and Organization: Responsibilities involve maintaining a positive and safe learning environment, organizing materials, and monitoring the classroom.
  • Supervising students during classroom and non-classroom activities, such as recess or field trips
  • Administrative and Clerical Support: Paraprofessionals handle tasks such as tracking student information, performing clerical duties, and preparing student progress reports.
  • May require escorting students to and from classes or activities
  • Communication and Collaboration: They communicate with parents and school officials and collaborate with other staff members.
  • All other duties & responsibilities assigned by Dean of Instruction.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience working with children, especially those with special needs or academic challenges.
  • Essential skills include strong communication, patience, classroom management, flexibility, teamwork, basic computer literacy, knowledge of special education practices, and the ability to assist students physically
