Space Software Engineer (Clearable)

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Space Software Engineer to support the development of groundbased software systems for satellite operations. This role focuses on building scalable backend services and APIs that enable communication with large constellations of satellites. The ideal candidate is a strong Python developer with cloud experience in AWS and a background in building highperformance, distributed systems. No prior satellite experience is required.

Locations to Work From (Hybrid Remote):

• Denver, CO; Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend software supporting satellite ground operations.
• Build and manage APIs to control, monitor, and interact with satellite systems.
• Integrate applications with AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS, EKS, and Fargate.
• Optimize system performance, scalability, cost efficiency, and security across cloud environments.
• Develop and deploy containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to define requirements, implement features, and resolve technical issues.
• Support CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps processes, and infrastructure automation using tools like Terraform.
• Contribute to software architecture design and system improvements.
• Prototype and integrate AI/ML or generative AI capabilities where applicable.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum development cycles with frontend and backend teams.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of experience in backend or fullstack software development.
• Strong programming experience in Python .
• Experience developing APIs and working with GraphQL or RESTful services.
• Handson experience with AWS cloud services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS/EKS, etc.).
• Experience with containerization tools such as Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with InfrastructureasCode tools such as Terraform.
• Experience using Gitbased version control platforms (GitHub or GitLab).
• Strong problemsolving skills and ability to work independently in a fastpaced environment.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical teams.
• Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.

Preferred:

• Experience integrating AI/ML APIs or platforms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar.
• Familiarity with realtime data systems and distributed architectures.
• Experience contributing across backend, DevSecOps, and system architecture domains.

Compensation:

• Pay range: $130,000 - $180,000 (Based on years of relevant experience)
