Job Description Summary The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (MRI) reports to the site supervisor and the radiology manager. Under general supervision, the MRI Technologist performs high‑quality MRI examinations in accordance with established protocols on patient populations for physician interpretation. Other duties as deemed necessary. Responsibilities Performs MRI examinations in accordance with established protocols while maintaining image quality, patient safety, and efficient workflow. Completes patient screening, exam documentation, and image verification in RIS and PACS to support timely physician interpretation. Maintains image quality, productivity, and efficient patient workflow. Adheres to departmental standards and modality‑specific protocols. Provides safe, compassionate, patient‑centered care throughout the imaging process. Utilizes the SHIELD reporting platform when there is an event that occurs outside a normal encounter. Adheres to all MRI safety requirements, including zone protocols, implant screening, and ferromagnetic safety practices. Upholds compliance and organizational standards. Performs routine equipment quality control checks, assisting with troubleshooting equipment malfunctions and placing tickets as needed. Supports onboarding and training of staff and students. Facilitates a positive work and learning environment. Participates in performance improvement initiatives related to quality, efficiency, patient, employee, and physician satisfaction, and safety. Participates in staff meetings, lunch and learns, and quality meetings. Maintains a professional demeanor in attitude, appearance, and communication. Requirements Graduated from an accredited school of imaging. Registry eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) in MRI. Must obtain registry within 1 year of hire. Must produce very high‑quality special imaging with little supervision. Must function effectively in a team‑oriented environment. Must be familiar with age‑specific criteria. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required; either AHA BLS or Red Cross CPR/AED for professional rescuer. Proactively maintain and renew ARRT, state license, BLS, PPD, respirator fit test, and POC training. Registry eligible ARRT(MR). Must obtain MRI registration within 1 year of hire date. Experience: 1‑2 years. Skills: General MRI exams, implants, elastography, and defecography. Rotate to other locations as needed for training/staffing. Additional New Requirements Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. Must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Computer literacy. Ability to work overtime as required. Ability to learn and use new processes, tools, and equipment as required. Additional Job Description Education: Graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology. Work Experience: 0‑2 years of modality specific experience required. Registration/Certifications: Must be registered with ARRT. ARRT MRI registration required within one year. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred. (Continuous) Ability to reach in all directions. (Continuous) Possess good finger dexterity. (Continuous) Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions. (Continuous) Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function. (Continuous) Ability to lift and carry, up to 200 feet, 50lbs, unassisted. Ability to lift patients and move patients to 350lbs (+/-), assisted. Ability to lift objects from floor level to height of 72 inches, to 50lbs, unassisted. Ability to lower objects, to 50lbs (+/-), from height of 72 inches, unassisted. Ability to push/pull objects/patients to 350lbs (+/-), unassisted. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to hear and understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet. Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to be qualified physically (by medical personnel) for respirator use, initially and annually.
