CHF, DKA, Resp Fail, Metabolic Acidosis, Renal Fail, Encephalopathy


Experience or 'Must have' skills

Must have 2+ years of ICU experience, including ventilators, drip management, DKA management.


Are RNs required to titrate drips?

Yes

Common titratable &/or set rate drips

All cardiac drips, insulin, sedation meds

Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?

Yes, free charge

Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit? Ratios? Duties?

Depends on the day and the unit census, do not have a PCA less than 10 pts

Hospitalist &/or Intensivist in house 24/7? In the ICU 24/7?

Yes, NP 24 hrs, MD day shift and on call

RT in ICU 24/7?

Yes

RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot?

RT is on unit 24 hours a day, RNS are only required to trouble shoot. We have vents, bipap, airvo, etc. all modalities for resp.


Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?

No the free charge and the ICU nurses are the ones watching the monitors. There is a central monitor with all patients at every nurses station

Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?)

We have self scheduling, 6 weekend shifts in a 6 week period, I try my best not to move peoples days if I can help it.
