About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 weeks Shift: AM Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 18 months in a cardiac unit within the past 3 years License: Georgia or compact nursing license in hand Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must be able to independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a Dysrhythmia Exam. No tech assistance permitted. Must pass on the first attempt (no remediation opportunities). Exam is paper-based, proctored, and requires the use of calipers. Strong cardiac background is required. EPIC experience is necessary. Rating of "4" on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist is essential. Chest tube experience is required. Description: These units are high-acuity, heavily cardiac-focused PCU units. Travelers should expect a high nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 to 1:5. There will be high patient acuity with frequent admissions and discharges. Additionally, there is a significant procedural volume. Experience with the following cardiac drips is required: Insulin, Milrinone, Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Heparin, Lasix, Nitroglycerin. Common patient populations include Heart Failure, Atrial Fibrillation, Atrial Flutter, Supraventricular Tachycardia, Ventricular Tachycardia, Ventricular Fibrillation, Fluid Volume Overload, Chest Pain, Hypertension, Heart Transplant Patients, Congenital Heart Disease, and LVAD Patients. Common procedures performed in this setting include Right & Left Heart Catheterizations, TR Band Management, Sheath Removal/Management, Stent Placement, Valve Replacement Procedures, STEMI/NSTEMI Care, Pacemakers, ICDs, Cardioversions, Ablations, and Groin Site Management. Travelers may float to similar cardiac/PCU units as needed. Travelers will not float to Monitor Tech roles. Ensure comfort with the cardiac acuity, telemetry requirements, and procedures listed before accepting this assignment.
