Title: Director of Residential & Recreation Services (Res-Rec Dir)

Reports To: Executive Director

Status: Exempt -- but expected to work afternoons, evenings, and on designated weekends.

Job Summary: Interviews, hires, trains, and supervises non-education direct-care staff (SRCs and their supporting RCs) to ensure 24-7-365 coverage and safety in activity areas on- and off-campus, and in the sleeping areas. Coordinates with a designated Scheduler. Serves as an integral member of the Management Executive Committee (MEC) in pursuit of strategic planning, new business development, resource allocation, risk management, and performance improvement. Works in concert with the staff of other departments to implement CQI action plans. 

POSITION EXPECTATIONS :

1 Designs, with fellow Directors & SRCs, the Training Modules to be used for RCs

2 Conducts many of the initial trainings personally as a way to bond with RCPs.

3 Performs active OTMSS (Orientation, Training, Monitoring, Supervision, Support) daily.

4 Holds staff accountable, with support of others, for conduct as described in both Handbooks.

5 “Groups” students in activities with guidance from Clinical & Education Directors.

c) guide the Scheduler to match the strengths of staff with the needs of students in the group.

6 Understands and applies the LRA Progressive Disciplinary Plan with all RCs.

7 Investigates critical incidents involving residents and their interactions with staff.

8 Notifies Compliance and the Executive Director of any high-risk issues; tracks trends and provides actions to prevent them.

9 Ensures compliance with state licensing standards relevant to milieu management. 

10 Effects exceptional communication with teachers, clinicians, and support employees. 

11 Ensures that RCs use good documentation skills when necessary.

12 Attends selected shift change, treatment team, and other meetings as necessary. 

13 Interacts well with parents, sponsors, educational consultants, or referral sources as needed.

14 Models appropriate attitudes and behaviors for all staff and students. 

15 Responds promptly to urgent needs or crisis situations involving students or staff.

16 Studies student BIPs and makes sure his RCs implement the Phase System consistently.

17 Accesses Nurses regarding student health issues; ensures staff are kept informed and works with clinicians to ensure parents are kept informed.

18 Knows performance expectations detailed in each RC Job Description; keeps them updated.

19 Serves effectively as CSL when requested.

20 Performs other duties as requested by the Executive Director.

14. Reviews critical incidents and participates in root-cause analysis as requested by the Compliance Officer.

15. Greets all visitors, parents, and reviewers with a smile and the utmost respect.

16. Models ethical behavior when resolving misunderstandings, disagreements, and conflicts.

17. Contributes to long-term planning; promotes collection of Outcome data; and supports CQI initiatives.

18. Allocates resources efficiently; manages budgets (MEC members); reports variances for the MOR meetings.

19. Participates with co-directors in making Admission, Rejection, and Ejection determinations.

Requirements:

  QUALIFICATIONS:

a. Bachelor’s degree 

b. Minimum of two years of working in a behavioral health job, preferably with adolescents in a Residential Treatment Center

c. Strong communication skills: Listening, Speaking, and De-escalation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

a. Accurate communication skills exhibited as a team member with the Clinical & Education Staff. 

b. Able to participate in all NCI/CPI protocols, including physical interventions. 

c. Able to lead a team in applying de-escalation and restraint actions.

d. Short periods of running to keep eyes on a potential AWOL student.
