This role serves as a working lead, performing mechanical inspections while helping ensure production schedules, customer requirements, and quality objectives are achieved.This position acts as a technical resource for inspection methods, metrology, blueprint interpretation, GD&T, and quality documentation. The Inspection Team Lead also serves as a backup to the Quality Supervisor, supporting departmental continuity and day-to-day operations as needed.Inspection Team Leadership & CoordinationCoordinate daily inspection priorities and workflow to support production schedules, customer requirements, and business objectivesProvide technical guidance and mentorship to Quality Inspectors regarding inspection methods, measurement techniques, and interpretation of specifications and drawingsServe as the primary resource for inspection-related questions and quality concernsSupport training and development of inspectors on inspection equipment, procedures, and quality system requirementsPromote a culture of quality, safety, teamwork, and continuous improvementServe as a liaison between Inspection, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure effective communication and issue resolutionAct as a backup to the Quality Supervisor by assisting with workflow coordination, communication of departmental priorities, escalation of quality concerns, and day-to-day team support activities during periods of absenceMechanical Inspection & Quality OperationsPerform incoming, in-process, first article, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment and established inspection methodsUtilize advanced inspection and metrology equipment, including: Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs)Vision SystemsOptical ComparatorsMicrometersCalipersPin GagesIndicators and other precision measurement toolsInterpret engineering drawings, customer specifications, and GD&T requirements to verify product conformanceReview Device History Records (DHRs) and associated quality documentation for completeness, accuracy, and complianceCoordinate and support inspection activities to ensure products meet customer specifications and operational requirementsCollaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, and Quality teams to achieve production and quality objectivesAssist in the investigation and disposition of nonconforming materials and productsParticipate in root cause investigations and CAPA activitiesMaintain accurate inspection records, reports, and quality documentationSupport new product introductions, validations, and manufacturing transfers by providing inspection and quality expertiseContinuous Improvement & ComplianceIdentify, recommend, and support process improvement initiatives that enhance product quality, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiencyAssist in the development, review, and implementation of inspection procedures, work instructions, and quality documentationMonitor quality trends and communicate concerns, risks, and improvement opportunities to Quality leadershipSupport internal, customer, and regulatory audits and assist with corrective actionsEnsure compliance with FDA, ISO 13485, GMP, customer, and company quality system requirementsMaintain accurate quality records, databases, reports, and supporting documentationWhat We're Looking ForRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum 5 years of mechanical inspection experience in a regulated manufacturing environmentAdvanced proficiency in blueprint reading and GD&T interpretationStrong hands-on experience using precision measurement and metrology equipmentExperience with CMMs, Vision Systems, Optical Comparators, and related inspection technologies - Hexagon / PC-DMIS, Keyence and Mitutoyo preferredExperience reviewing Device History Records (DHRs), quality records, and manufacturing documentationStrong problem-solving, root cause analysis, and decision-making skillsExcellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skillsAbility to lead by example and coordinate team activities without direct supervisory responsibilityProficiency with Microsoft Office applications and quality management systemsPreferred QualificationsAssociate degree, technical certification, or related educationMedical device manufacturing experience strongly preferredWorking knowledge of FDA Quality System Regulations (21 CFR Part 820), ISO 13485, and GMP requirementsExperience supporting audits, CAPAs, and continuous improvement initiativesYou are a highly skilled mechanical inspector who enjoys being the technical expert others rely on for guidance.
