Job Title: Intensive Care Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care / Coronary Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 0 years required License: Current RN Licensure Certifications: Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire Must-Have: - Graduation from an accredited school of nursing - Critical thinking skills - Ability to manage high-stress situations Description: This position is responsible for functioning as both a caregiver and care manager. In the caregiver role, the RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN implements the Nursing Process in this role. As a care manager, the RN directs and oversees the work of other caregivers via delegation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of patient care outcomes. The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of Patient Care Services. The role requires the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates. Essential Functions: 1. Perform assessment/data collection, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive status. 2. Implement care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner by adhering to procedures, policies, and care plans. 3. Identify patient/significant other learning needs and implement patient teaching as defined by policy and care plans. 4. Document in patient charts per policy and in accordance with regulatory requirements. 5. Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights. 6. Delegate patient care activities appropriately and supervise assigned coworkers. 7. Organize and prioritize tasks utilizing sound critical thinking. 8. Use lines of authority appropriately. 9. May function as a Charge Nurse, assisting with patient assignments, admissions, discharges, and transfers. 10. Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations. 11. Adhere to safety requirements, including security, infection control, and disaster preparedness. 12. Comply with organization policies and procedures. 13. Conduct self in a professional manner and maintain personal appearance standards. 14. Ensure additional accountabilities are addressed to meet organizational standards. Work Environment: This position reports to designated supervisory staff. It involves working closely with patients, physicians, and other clinicians to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes. Physical Requirements: 1. Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, and bending. 2. Manual dexterity is required, with the ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. 3. Physical strength is needed for tasks such as CPR and moving patients. 4. Keen mental faculties for assessment and decision-making skills in patient management. 5. Good reading eyesight to observe patient data clearly. 6. Emotional stability to handle high-stress levels associated with caring for acute patients. 7. Ability to communicate accurately with healthcare professionals and the public. Certifications Required: - Advanced Life Support certification to be completed within 6 months of hire. - Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification within 12 months of hire. - Trauma Nursing Core Course certification within 12 months of hire. - Pediatric Advanced Emergency Assessment certification within 12 months of hire. - Moderate sedation training to be completed within 12 months of hire. - RN-C preferred. - Total Joint Program training and performance expectations to be followed.
