TBI Subject Matter Expert (Scientist Physician - CPCR)

Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a TBI Subject Matter Expert (Scientist Physician - CPCR) to provide scientific, technical, and programmatic leadership services to the identified program. Expert knowledge of TBI is required. Proficiency in research methods and statistics is preferred. Knowledge of DoD and VA health care systems and clinical guidelines is preferred. The Physician is responsible for the treatment of patients during the progression of their disease and their participation in clinical research programs within established institutional policies and procedures, for the direction and execution of clinical research programs, ensuring that all necessary steps are followed for safety and regulatory compliance, and for assuring accuracy of complex clinical documentation on patients’ records, maintaining confidentiality. This position will be in support of the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence (TBICoE) in Silver Spring, MD. The TBICoE is a branch of the Research Support Division in the Research and Engineering Directorate (R&E) of the Defense Health Agency (DHA). DHA is a Federal Program within the Department of Defense (DoD). TBICoE, known previously as the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC), has been congressionally mandated since 1992 and is currently a matrixed research, dissemination, and knowledge translation program, supporting warfighter brain health and readiness by advancing the traumatic brain injury state of the science and clinical standards. TBICoE's mission to support the warfighter is executed through subject matter experts embedded across DHA facilities with expertise in TBI clinical research investigations, surveillance, clinical tool development and training, cognitive monitoring and assessment, and dissemination of TBI tools, products, and education/training materials to DoD medical personnel, service members, including Guard, Reserve, and operational medics/corpsmen, veterans with TBI, and families/caregivers of the warfighter. This position is contingent upon contract award. Responsibilities Directs and participates in the submission of clinical research protocols to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Provides evaluation and treatment of medical conditions, as appropriate to medical license and specialty board certification. Works to secure funding via grants or through other external programmatic stakeholders. Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of the clinical research program. Analyzes clinical data. Prepares program status reports to the institution, regulatory agencies, and sponsors of the clinical research programs scientific papers for presentation at local and national meetings and for publication in medical and scientific periodicals. May include budgetary responsibility to include plan/forecast, prepare, approve, monitor. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role. Supervisory Responsibilities Direct Supervisor : Direct authority to make decisions on the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, starting salaries and merit increases; conduct employee performance evaluations and directs work activities. Education and Experience Professional degree [MD, DO, PhD, MD/PhD, OD, or relevant terminal doctorate degree] with specialty training in areas such as Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neurosurgery, Clinical Neuropsychology, Clinical Psychology, Neuro-Optometry or related field strongly preferred. Minimum Experience: 8-10 years of experience in healthcare and/or healthcare research required. Experience with TBI, prior experience with DoD/VA systems preferred. Must have published in peer-reviewed journals on the topic of TBI and have experience presenting at professional conferences and meetings. Must complete CITI/ HIPAA training. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine and the procedures and techniques necessary for performing research tasks. SMEs are professional personnel who have published in peer reviewed publications, conducted presentations at professional meetings, and are considered experts in their given field. Excellent oral and written communications required. Must adhere to legal, professional and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality and privacy. Expert knowledge of TBI required. Proficiency in research methods and statistics preferred. Knowledge of DoD and VA health care systems and clinical guidelines preferred. Must have strong collaborative and organizational skills, strong writing, and analytic skills. Designs, directs, and participates in clinical research protocols in conjunction with research physicians and scientists. Knowledge of medical science and the development of clinical research programs. Physical Capabilities Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs. Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods. Licenses and Certifications Licensure to practice medicine within the continental United States; Board certified or board eligible for certification in the specialty associated with the clinical research program. Work Environment This position will take place primarily in an office setting. Compensation The annual salary range for this position is $173,600-$322,400.
