Welder

U.S. Facilities, Inc., a consolidated facility management service, is seeking a Welder for the Hampton, VA location. The Welder shall provide support to the maintenance and operations of the VDOT Hampton Roads Harbor Tunnels (HRHT) by performing quality repairs, modifications, and fabrications on equipment, machinery, and structures using advanced welding techniques. This is to be accomplished on a routine basis as outlined in the following responsibilities: Responsibilities Perform certified welding on equipment in tunnels, roadways, existing buildings, new construction and framework, and high‑pressure vessels. Weld and accurately cut metal to repair a variety of equipment. Perform precise modifications to various equipment as required to adapt equipment for special accessories. Locate parts and materials needed for tasks. Provide repair estimates to management. Maintain accurate records of completed work. Perform certified welding on tunnel equipment and structures such as sidewalk handrails, drain grates, manhole covers, and roadway plates. Any other duties as assigned by a supervisor and/or USF Senior Project Manager. Education High School diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience or training may substitute for education. Minimum Qualifications AWS Certification required. Knowledge of AC, DC, and arc electric welding techniques. Knowledge of various materials, equipment, metallurgical properties, and structural principles. Experience in the operation of a variety of welding tools and equipment such as MIG, TIG, electronic and carbon arc, oxyacetylene torch, plasma torch, wire, stick, band saws, grinders, and other welding equipment. Demonstrate success providing good customer service to internal and external customers. Demonstrate experience performing welding on equipment and structures such as bridges, buildings, or high‑pressure vessels using advanced welding techniques and equipment. Demonstrate success reading and interpreting blueprints and sketches. Demonstrate success fabricating components, as needed, to meet required specifications. Demonstrate experience safely welding in an overhead position. Demonstrate experience maintaining accurate records of work performed. Ability to weld a variety of metals including mild steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and dissimilar metals. Ability to work independently and unsupervised in normal and emergency situations. Demonstrate success fabricating and modifying equipment and materials and using proper tools in accordance with industry standards for acceptable quality of work. Preferred Qualifications AWS D1.1 and D1.5 Certifications. Work Conditions May be subject to working outside of normal working hours during emergency operations. Potential for significant periods of sitting or standing. May be subject to short or no‑notice work assignments. Monitored performance with routine evaluation. Pre‑employment Requirements A fingerprint‑based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) will be conducted prior to employment. Drug screening will be conducted prior to employment. 18 years of age or older. Virginia Driver’s License in good standing. Compensation $21.00 - $25.00 /hourly. PTO 120 Hours annually. Paid holidays. NOTE: This position is designed as essential and, as such, all duties associated with this job are required during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response and emergency operations.
