Recreation Therapist

About the role As part of an interdisciplinary treatment team, the Recreation Therapist designs and implements a variety of activities focusing on individualized needs with the specific objective of fostering effective interactions, enhancing coping skills and cognitive functioning, reality orientation, and prioritizing independence in caring for self. Responsibilities Assure provision of recreational therapy activities through individual and group programs to attain or maintain the highest practical level of physical, mental, spiritual and psychosocial well‐being. Participate as a member of the treatment team to integrate recreational activities and socialization as part of the total patient plan of care. Document activities that reflect services provided as the patient’s progress toward meeting treatment plan goals and objectives. Document daily group notes in patient EMR. Develop scheduled recreational activities and programming that reflects the assessed needs and interests of the patients, providing culturally appropriate activities, supplies, and materials. Develop structured programs that will offer the patient the opportunity to reduce stress, improve mood, increase activity levels, and improve social skills. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in therapeutic recreation or a behavioral health related field, or must have or be on track to receive certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS). Demonstrated ability by education or training in treating people with mental/psychiatric illness. English/Spanish speaking is a plus.
