Professional Engineer I

We are currently seeking a full-time Professional Engineer I for our client, a multidisciplinary engineering firm specializing in MEP, structural, industrial, and project management services. This opportunity is available in Pittsfield, MA; Shelton, CT; or Troy, NY. The Professional Engineer I performs advanced engineering tasks, provides technical support and guidance to teammates, and applies professional engineering expertise to produce high-quality, timely work. This position requires project coordination, technical review, client interaction, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Job Duties

Technical:

• Understands and can instruct others on advanced engineering principles, material properties, and other applicable engineering concepts.
• Maintains knowledge of applicable codes, safety requirements, and other standards.
• Under the supervision of a licensed professional, prepares working drawings and specifications and performs detailed calculations for projects of increasing difficulty.
• Prepares, reviews, and approves technical reports and Step 1 reports prepared by engineers.
• Is proficient in relevant design and analytical software.
• Takes a lead role in coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
• Communicates technical concepts proficiently, both verbally and in writing.

Project Management:

• In collaboration with other team members, provides technical expertise and advises clients on design solutions and recommendations.
• Understands the scope of services outlined in project contracts and identifies when client requests are outside of scope.
• Works with team members to understand client needs and analyze schedule, scope, and budget constraints in order to add value through proposed solutions.
• Monitors project deadlines as they relate to assigned deliverables.
• Leverages knowledge of planning, design delivery, and construction completion to help make informed recommendations to clients.
• Works with staff to develop project milestones.
• Asks thoughtful, relevant, and open-ended questions to better understand client needs and actively listens to develop rapport.
• Visits project sites and attend meetings with clients, architects, and engineers.
• Prepare status updates on assigned tasks.

Business Development:

• Connect locally with relevant networks to build professional relationships.
• Leverages professional networks to maintain relevant knowledge expected by clients.
• Works with junior technical staff in the development of technical documentation for proposals and presentations.

Leadership / Management:

• Supports other engineering staff with technical questions and meeting deadlines, communicating concerns or challenges to leadership.
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and provide high-quality customer service.
• Maintains a people-first approach and entrepreneurial initiative while developing an understanding of risk management and the business impact of process improvement.
• Understands how work impacts the larger goals and strategic initiatives of the firm.
• Continues education to remain current with technologies and practices, trains newly hired staff, and supports staff development through day-to-day interactions and informal mentorship.

Financial Acumen:

• Understands accurate timekeeping and its importance to project performance and budgets; assists management with monitoring due dates and resource utilization with the goal of project profitability.
• Understands the amount of time available to complete each project.

Client Service:

• Interacts professionally both internally and externally.
• Exhibits a balance of self-confidence and humility, cultivating trust through active listening and teamwork.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience.
• Professional Engineer licensure preferred
• Ability to use engineering software, Revit, and Microsoft Suite products.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 4+ years of experience preferred.

Work Environment & Travel:

• Normal office environment with moderate noise levels; occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.; regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing, and reaching.
• Ability to perform consistent work on a PC.
• Travel may be required.
