Registered Nurse (RN) - NICU

Location: Salem, Virginia

Unit Information:

• Number of Beds: 6 (5 open bays, 1 isolation room)
• Patient Ratios: 1:2-3
• Unit Staffing Description: Registered Nurses and Respiratory Therapists
• Type of Equipment: GE 650 monitors, Medela breast pumps, Syringe pumps, IV pumps, bili-lights
• Documentation System: Meditech, Centricity Perinatal
• Scheduling Requirements: 3 shifts of 12 hours each per week
• Floating Policy: Birth Response / Stork Nurse
• Patient Experience Standards: AIDET, courtesy, and respect

Qualifications:

• Requested Skill Set: Breastfeeding support, strong communication skills
• Essential Skills: IV insertion in preterm or term infants, ability to work independently, good assessment skills, knowledge of symptoms indicating declining health in preterm infants
• Advanced Skills: Ability to care for and stabilize critically ill infants requiring ventilator support, CPAP, UVC placement, surfactant administration, needle decompression, TPN administration, and lipids
• Procedures Performed: Newborn resuscitation, intubation, umbilical line placement, surfactant administration, needle decompression, chest tube insertion, NG/OG feedings
• Certifications Required: RN licensure, BLS, NRP

Dress Code: Hospital-provided scrubs (change on arrival and departure)

Unit Guidelines:

• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Ready for huddle at 6:45 AM
