Position Description

We are seeking a qualified healthcare professional to join our high-acuity pediatric unit, starting November 9. This position requires a commitment to a minimum of 13 weeks, operating on variable day and night shifts. The successful candidate must be flexible in scheduling and willing to work during two of the following holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's.

Shift Details

• Night Shifts: 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:00)
• Day Shifts: 3x12-Hour (07:00 - 19:00)

Unit Summary

This is a high-acuity pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) that cares for patients experiencing:

• Injury
• Respiratory failure
• Shock
• Multi-system failure
• Poisonings
• Near drowning
• Meningitis
• Post-operative cardiac surgical care
• Neurosurgery

Professional Requirements

• Active California state nursing license.
• Minimum of 2 years of independent PICU experience (not including orientation).
• Experience must be within the last year and include working in a unit with at least 10 beds.
• Comfortable floating between units, specifically between CVPICU and NICU.
• Certifications: BLS and PALS required.
• Experience with ventilators and multiple monitors, specifically CVP and EKG.
• First-time travelers are welcome if they possess strong experience.

Work Expectations

Candidates must demonstrate full availability, including:

• Ability to work weekends (4 weekend shifts for day nurses; 5 weekend shifts for night nurses, with one full weekend off per 4-week schedule).
• No holiday time off will be approved; flexibility is essential.

Additional Requirements

• Travelers may have to float within the hospital as needed.
• Previous charge experience is preferred.
• High patient acuity may require advanced clinical management skills.

Patient Care Details

Our unit serves a diverse population, including patients from infants to adolescents, with a daily census of approximately 20. We prioritize a ratio of 1:1 to 1:2 nurse-to-patient assignments to ensure the highest level of care.
