Registered Nurse Radiation Oncology

Experienced Registered Nurse OpportunityWe are seeking one experienced Registered Nurse to provide patient-centered care in the B2 Radiation Oncology unit at the NIH Clinical Center. This is a 13-week contract assignment with the possibility of a long-term or permanent full-time opportunity based on performance and continued staffing needs.Schedule:Monday through Friday7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.40 hours per weekMinimum Qualifications:Active, valid, and unrestricted RN license issued by at least one U.S. state, territory, or commonwealthAssociate degree, nursing diploma, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited institutionSuccessful completion of the NCLEX-RNAt least two years of radiation oncology or ambulatory-care nursing experienceCurrent Basic Life Support certificationDemonstrated competency in starting peripheral IVs, performing blood draws, and accessing implanted portsEffective English communication skillsComputer literacy and proficiency with electronic clinical documentationU.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card statusPrimary Responsibilities:Assess patients before, during, and after radiation oncology visits and treatmentsComplete patient intake, medication reconciliation, focused assessments, and symptom screeningStart and maintain peripheral IVs, collect blood specimens, and access implanted ports within the RN's authorized scope of practiceAdminister medications, fluids, and supportive treatments as orderedMonitor patients for treatment-related side effects, complications, and changes in conditionPerform skin, pain, nutritional, fatigue, and other treatment-related assessmentsCoordinate care with radiation oncologists, physicians, radiation therapists, dosimetrists, physicists, and other healthcare professionalsEducate patients and families about treatment plans, expected side effects, symptom management, skin care, medications, and follow-up needsProvide emotional support to patients and families throughout treatmentMaintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentationFollow NIH clinical protocols, radiation-safety practices, infection-control requirements, and professional standardsParticipate in required orientation, training, and competency activitiesFloat to another patient-care area when needed, provided the assignment is within the RN's demonstrated competency and scope of practiceAdditional Requirements:Selected candidates must satisfy NIH credentialing, health, immunization, security, fingerprinting, background-investigation, and facility-access requirementsAll licenses, certifications, competencies, and health documentation must remain current throughout the assignmentIdeal Candidate:The successful candidate will be clinically confident, compassionate, and skilled in vascular access, symptom management, patient education, and interdisciplinary ambulatory oncology care.
