Who We Are
The DCC
The mission of Denver County Court is to administer justice fairly, efficiently, and effectively; provide excellent customer service, and foster a positive environment where employees enjoy their work. The City and County of Denver’s third branch of government is comprised of 19 judges, 4 full-time magistrates, and 300 staff members. Case types include state, civil, small claims, traffic, criminal, and other general sessions cases within the City and County of Denver. The Denver County Court proudly serves the community and continually seeks ways to incorporate procedural fairness and evidence-based practices. Denver County Court Specialty Courts & Programming division is currently seeking a Screener (Outreach Case Coordinator II) to join the team.
The Sobriety Court Program
Sobriety Court was established in 2011, to support individuals with repeat DUI offenses, build lasting recovery and create healthier, more stable lives. Rather than relying solely on traditional court processes, Sobriety Court offers a structured, supportive program that combines treatment, accountability, and encouragement. Sobriety Court supports recovery and reduces impaired driving by providing a collaborative, respectful, and accountable approach that promotes participant success, personal growth, and community safety. Participants in Sobriety Court work closely with a team of professionals who provide individualized support, treatment services, and regular check-ins. Participation is voluntary and based on both legal and clinical eligibility and includes five phases that typically take approximately 14–24 months to complete. Sobriety Court is a state accredited treatment court designed for adults with second or third DUI offenses.
The Recovery Court Program
Recovery Court was established in 2026, and is a collaborative treatment court program serving individuals with misdemeanor and low-level felony drug and drug-adjacent misdemeanor charges. Recovery Court offers a specialized, systemic process for a pathway to recovery that prioritizes the individual’s unique needs and places them at the center of their own care. This program focuses on individuals struggling with substance misuse and/or co-occurring challenges which may include a brain injury, a mental health condition(s), and/or trauma. Successful completion of the program can lead to a case being pleaded down or a case being dismissed and the potential for the individual to have their record sealed.
What You'll Do
Denver County Court (DCC) is seeking a full-time Screener to conduct screening assessments for individuals who may be eligible for participation in two specialty court programs, Recovery Court and Sobriety Court. DCC’s Specialty Courts and Programs serve adults involved in the justice system who have substance use, mental health, and/or co-occurring disorders. These programs are designed to identify eligible individuals early in the case process and support the court in connecting participants to appropriate, individualized interventions and services.
Recovery Court is a collaborative treatment court program serving individuals with misdemeanor and low-level felony drug and drug-adjacent misdemeanor charges. Recovery Court uses multiple screening tools including: the RANT (Risk and Needs Triage), the Simple Screening Instrument for Alcohol and Other Drugs (SSI-R), the Colorado Criminal Justice Mental Health Screen (CCJMHS), the Online Brain Injury Screening and Support System (OBISSS), and the Level of Service Inventory-Revised (LSI-R), to identify risk and need levels, mental health, substance use, and brain injury needs. Screening assessments take on average 45 minutes to complete. The Recovery Court program estimates serving approximately 150-300 participants per year and will likely screen 30-35 per week.
The Sobriety Court Program is a treatment court serving adults with second and third DUI charges. Sobriety Court uses both the RANT and DUI-RANT to determine risk/need level and accepts only high risk/high need level participants. Screening assessments take between 30-45 minutes to complete. The Sobriety Court program currently completes approximately 20-25 screens per month and serves approximately 50 participants over a two-year period.
As a Screener, you can expect to:
Engage with eligible individuals at the Downtown Detention Center (DDC) and various courtrooms, either in person or virtually, to complete screening assessments
Conduct screenings to assess risk/need levels and behavioral health needs in order to determine eligibility for specialty court programs
Communicate screening outcomes to court teams and stakeholders
Accurately document screening activities, outcomes, and eligibility decisions per program policies and data system requirements
Provide resource packets to individuals, per program requirements
Contribute to data collection, tracking, and reporting efforts to support program evaluation and performance goals
What You'll Bring
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
Familiarity with commonly used risk/need assessment tools, or the ability to learn and apply them effectively
Strong interviewing skills with experience or knowledge of motivational interviewing and trauma-informed practices
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Working knowledge of standard office technology: Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
Experience using record-checking systems or criminal justice databases (or the ability to learn quickly)
Strong attention to detail, with accurate documentation and data-entry skills
Experience working with individuals who have legal system involvement and behavioral health needs
Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including court staff, attorneys, probation, and service providers
Bilingual in Spanish highly preferred
